Description
In the mid-1960s, Ferrari urgently needed to homologate an engine for Formula 2 single-seaters and thus entered into an industrial agreement with Fiat, for the supply of the "Dino" 6-cylinder V engines, named in honor of Enzo Ferrari's son, who died prematurely and who had contributed to their design.
So, in 1966 Pininfarina was entrusted in drowing the fascinating Spider which mounts the 1987 cm³ Ferrari V6, with aluminum head and base. Power 160 horsepower at 7500 rpm.
The orders are immediately higher than expected and it is not long before the 500 units designed to satisfy the homologation are quickly exceeded, so much so that Fiat orders another batch of 650 units from Pininfarina, which assembles the Spider in its own factories.
With their innovative and elegant lines, the Fiat Dino's mark the history of the brand for having introduced cutting-edge technical solutions for the development of future models.
