Description

Transmission: 4 gears, Manual gearbox
Registration number: DM-56-72

It was Fiat’s big boss, Gianni Agnelli himself who gave the go-ahead to design an open variant of the Fiat 500. The intended use: To drive the rich and famous around the exclusive beaches and luxury harbours. Ghia signed off on the bodywork and built a simple open 500 without doors and fixed roof. Only a sunscreen was deemed enough to keep the “happy few” from sunburn.

The original was first seen in 1958, it had rush seats and rear bench and came finished in purely charming pastel tints. Agnelli himself was quite pleased with the small dimensions of the Jolly as the open 500 was named, especially as it easily fitted on the yachts of the superrich, like his own 25 metre “Agneta” one. His client group included the likes of Aristotle Onassis and Princess Grace of Monaco and president Lyndon B Johnson was reported to have been content driving his Jolly across his huge Texan ranch. In short the 500 Jolly is St-Tropez, Palm Beach and Capri all rolled into one, it is ‘60’s jet-set life on wheels.

Do you want to have a joyful Jolly? Well we have good news for you. Only 650 Jolly’s were built and most have perished. An estimated 100 still remain with prices going sky-high. Real Jolly’s normally sell for well north of € 100,000! Fortunately there are ample opportunities to transform a normal Fiat 500 to a Jolly. A “tribute to” we would say. And that is exactly the car we have here. Based on a very sound 1966 Fia 500 with its original 2-cylinder and approximately 16,5 hp, although we could be out by a few tenths. It was then given the Jolly makeover whilst ensuring all safety aspects were taken care off and as sound as the regular Fiat 500. The car was also fully restored. What you have is a pristine Fiat 500 “Jolly Tribute”. Paintwork and all other details are in excellent shape.

Driving a Jolly evokes many a smile, for both passengers and everyone who sees it driving past. Be prepared for massive thumbs-up and compliments wherever you go, this car will only conjure up positive reactions. Speed is not of the essence, the 479 cc two-cylinder engine is Jolly-well enough for the Jolly, but do not expect exhilarating acceleration.
In our showroom we see that few cars get as much acknowledgment as this Jolly.

Mechanically is as one would expect from a 500: on point and very sound. Of course what is true for any 'Cinquecento' is also true for this 500: maintenance and parts are affordable, the amount of pleasure is priceless, and that is a great combination!
