"The Fiat 500 was a city car produced by the Italian manufacturer Fiat between 1957 and 1975. Launched as the Nuova 500 in July 1957, it was a cheap and practical town car. Measuring only nine feet nine inches long, and originally powered by an appropriately sized 479cc two-cylinder, air-cooled engine, the 500 redefined the term ‘small car’, and is considered one of the first city cars. Fiat produced their famous 'suicide door' 500D from 1960-1965. This was also available with the trasformabile (transformable) roof and was only available in left hand drive format. This combination of fully convertible roof and suicide doors is very rare now and has become the most collectable version of the 500.
This example is described by the vendor as a truly beautiful classic 1963 Fiat 500D Transformable with suicide doors and only 34,000 miles. This beautiful little icon has only had three owners from new, registered to its first keeper on 5th March 1963, then to its second on 16th November 2001 before our vendor, an Italian, purchased the car in 2017. Having been restored in Italy some 11 years ago with the same passion it was created with, it has clearly stood the test of time and is an exceptional example. The bodywork is straight, and mechanically, we are informed it starts first time. The car is UK registered with a V5C registration document. This is the most collectable and sought-after model, and the patina of the whole car is just stunning and in-line with the vehicle’s provenance."
