Fiat 124 Sport Spider 1800 (CS1), built in 1974 and fully race prepared according to FIA Group 4 specs (2nd period, class GTS 2000), red with black front hood and hard-top, registered in Italy, with italian Historic Tecnhical Passport (HTP-CSAI) and homologated equipment. This car raced - with great fun for the driver – mostly on rallies but also on hill-climbs, regularity events on the snow and on track. It is the right car for Tour Auto, Montecarlo Historique, Tour de Corse and many of the most important classic cars events.

The Spider 1800 is the version with the lowest samples number above the whole 124 Spider production (Abarth included): only 778 samples built of CS1 version.

The car offered, after a first conversion for racing purpose in 2008, since 2016 has been fully renewed according the Abarth upgrade kit, offered in the first 70’s to all privateers who wanted to race with their own 124 Spiders on rallies.

Below, the principal upgrades done to the car:
original engine fully overhauled with polished ducts, balanced crankshaft, balanced and lightened flywheel, original FIAT high-compression pistons, new cylinders, new valves, specific camshafts by Colombo&Bariani (Milan), balanced and polished piston rods with steel bolts, specific intake hose for Weber 44 IDF carbs, reinforced clutch, electric fuel pump, sport stainless steel exhaust with hose 4 in 2, 2 in 1;
- gearbox overhauled with limited slip differential and short bevel gear;
- electrical system fully renwed as well as instruments, lights, fuse box (now onboard), starter engine, new alternator and 4 supplementary headlights;
- steering box renewed mounted on uniball, suspensions for rally purpose mounted on stiff buckles, distribution cared by Giraldi (Pistoia);
- rollcage (make Sassa, model for 124 Abarth Rally) reinforced with head cross-bar;
- safety equipment homologated (seats and brackets, harnesses, fuel tank, double fire extinguisher, GPS system set-up, rollcage protections, towing hooks, co-driver lamp);
- sport steering wheel and pedals, tripmaster, helmets holder, jack, toolkit, sump protection;
- renewed braking system without servo brake and metal hoses;
- reinforced chassis on front and rear suspension brackets, stabilization bar brackets, together with other weak areas of the frame (wheel arches and door sills); lightweight hard-top with plexi rear window;
- period livery with front hood and hard-top painted black, together with upper wheel arches (adhesive) and side/rear stripe in white with black piping (adhesive);
- 1 set of Toyo R888 tyres, 1 set of rain Avon and 1 set of studded tyres.

Minimum weight 915 kgs (minimum admitted: 895).

The car has been prepared with passion by specialists according to period specs, looking for original spare parts: for example, we preferred to restore the original wood dashboard and leatherette consolle together with door panels and all the equipment of old rally cars.

The car, still with the original paint color “Rosso vivo” (152), comes with many racing spare parts and original equipment as the soft top, its cover, the rear seat, all the plastic panels, the armrests, the sun visors (no original front seats and steering wheel).

Some Historical tips:
produced by 1972 to 1974 the Fiat 124 Sport Spider 1.8 was the “less extreme” version of the 124 Abarth Rally – produced in the same period for racing purposes. With the Abarth, the Fiat shares the gearbox, the engine (many people says the chassis as well) and most of the components. The series production Rally model differed for the rear independent wheels, a lightened interior and the twin carburators (while the Fiat came with a single carburator and 118 hp) for a maximum power of 128hp. So, the Fiat 124 Spider, prepared as per period Group 4, gained the same performances.

After the first overall victory of a 124 Spider (a 1.400 model) at Rally di Como in 1968, in 1970, thanks to the 1.6 twincam engine, the crew Paganelli-Russo won the Rally dell’Elba, the Alpe della Luna and the Italian Rally Championship. Privateers 124 on rallies were getting very good results so Fiat, after the acquisition of Abarth, opened a racing deparment to follow all the race drivers on italian and european championships.
In 1971 the 124 1.6 received new upgrades and in 1972 the team “Squadra Corse Fiat” with the crew Pinto-Macaluso won the European Rally Championship and Mitropa Cup. Starting from 1973, the Fiat 124 Spiders were gradually substituted for the new more performing 124 Abarth, developed for rally purpose. However the Fiat 124 Spider by Squadra Corse continued their racing career for long time, as works or privateers.

The Fiat 124 Spider had been the first GT Fiat to debut on rallies with the official “Squadra Corse”: thanks to this model, Fiat gained important successes and a great return in terms of reputation. Duels among the 124 Spiders and the Lancia Fulvias are legendary still nowadays. Some famous crews which raced with the 124 Spider were Trombotto-Macaluso, Tominz-Mamolo, Smania-Zambelli, Verini-Scabini, Bisulli-Zanuccoli, Cavicchi-Rondinelli, together with race drivers as Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, Franco Perazio, Sergio Tacchini, Fausto Carello, Hakan Lindberg, Pino Ceccato, Pietro Mirri, Anna Cambiaghi and all those ones who later raced with the 124 Abarth up to late 70’s.
