Description
"With a name reminiscent of the 500 Mondial race cars from the 1950s, the Ferrari Mondial was a replacement model for the Ferrari 308 GT4. The Mondial was the first Ferrari where the entire engine, gearbox and rear suspension assembly was mounted on a detachable steel subframe, making engine removal for a major rebuild or cylinder head removal much easier than it was on previous models. The steel coachwork was taken care of by Carrozzeria Scaglietti and built over a lightweight steel box section space frame. The Mondial 8 is considered one of the marque's most ‘practical’ vehicles, due to its 214hp, proven drivetrain, four seats and relatively low cost of maintenance; major services can be performed without removing the entire engine/transmission subframe.
This very good Ferrari Mondial 8 is one of the 145, right hand drive, UK supplied cars. It was delivered on 28th October 1981 by Emblem Sports Cars, Blandford to Anthony Hamilton of Weymouth Dorset with the registration number 5222 RE. The service book shows its first nine services, up to 16th March 1988, with the odometer reading 49,489 miles. From invoices it can be seen that the car was serviced in June 1988 at 52,242 miles and from a statement from Cissbury Garage Ltd. its states the car was serviced again in 1989. A major service, including cambelts and new clutch was undertaken in August 1992 with a recorded mileage of 57,262 before the car was taken on a trip to Geneva, Switzerland. On its return in December 1992, the car went back to Monza Sport and both cylinder heads were removed and completely overhauled. The next recorded mileage is from an MoT test certificate in April 1994 at 67,008 miles. From then the car appears to have had very little use until 2010 when it received a major service including cambelts, a new water pump and the front brake calipers overhauled at 69,268 miles. This Ferrari was purchased in 2012 and after having a couple of new tyres in 2013 the car has been in storage only coming out a couple of times for repair and MoT test certificates. The car is currently being recommissioned, fully serviced and new cambelts fitted ready for the new owner to use and enjoy. Finished in the classic Ferrari colour scheme of Rosso Corsa with a cream leather interior, this Mondial 8 is supplied with a V5C registration document, a file containing old invoices and MoT test certificates and the original handbook wallet which has the original service book, service organisation directory and lubrication charts. The Ferrari Mondial 8 has gained recognition as a unique and accessible entry into the world of Ferrari. Its blend of performance, practicality, and distinctive design make it a notable piece of automotive history."
