Description

Since its introduction in 1987, the Ferrari F40 has captivated motoring enthusiasts across the globe. The model set new standards for performance, utilizing a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V-8, and advanced composite construction to move the needle of what was available on a production car. Only 213 US-specification F40s were built in total, and they remain among the most sought-after Ferraris of the era.

This outstanding US-spec F40 was purchased new through Lake Forest Sportscars in Illinois, and has been in the same family since, as part of their world-class collection.

While this remarkable F40 has only been driven approximately 4,600 miles since new, it has seen consistent care and is said by the consignor to retain its original finishes. Service work was performed by both Lake Forest Sportscars and Ferrari specialist John Hajduk of Motorkraft from new until 2018, as documented by invoices on file. In March 2020, the F40 received a major service, including timing belts, from Continental AutoSports of Hinsdale, Illinois. In preparation for Ferrari Classiche certification, additional attention was paid to the fuel system, including new pumps, pressure regulator, and distributor sensor. In all, roughly $49,000 was spent towards the proper operation of the F40’s major systems. Accompanying the car are its original monogrammed Schedoni luggage and leather plaque, certificate of origin, window sticker, owner’s manual, tools, and car cover. Also included are service records, purchase paperwork, and the Ferrari Classiche Red Book.

As F40s offered from original ownership have naturally become more difficult to find, this example must be considered an incredible opportunity. Rare as a US-specification F40, and benefiting from both low mileage and fastidious care, this Ferrari ticks all the boxes for the astute collector.
