The penultimate F40 produced and a great, very original example that has covered 23,000 km in the hands of three enthusiastic owners. All books are present in the original owner’s wallet as is Ferrari Classiche accreditation.

The F40 was ordered from Ferrari dealer Auto La Rotunda Exclusive SRL in Florence and was first delivered in April 1992 via Auto Sport Marranello to first owner Maro Cristiani, a Ferrari enthusiast and successful industrialist from Pisa. A letter on file from Maro’s son Stefano details their love of the marque and ownership of a 328 GTS and Testarossa prior to the F40. Their friendship with a retired private assistant of Enzo Ferrari enabled them to join the exclusive list of those able to order a new F40.

Father and son collected the car from Marranello in April 1992 and continued to enjoy and pamper it for the next twenty years. During this time it was driven very carefully by Maro, his son only being allowed to drive very occasionally and only with Father in the passenger seat. The F40 saw very little use in the second ten years of their tenure, by this time Maro was getting older and finding it increasingly difficult to get in and out of it. During their twenty years of ownership 20,000 km was covered and maintenance was entrusted to the supplying dealer and Auto Sport Marranello.

In 2012 Dick Lovett, the Ferrari main dealer based in Swindon were made aware of this F40 and following a series of discussions a sale was agreed between the Cristiani’s and the dealer. The DL dealer principal was duly despatched to Pisa to check the car out, a trip he remembers with fondness, the car being correct and the owner’s kind and generous people.

Following its arrival at the Dick Lovett Ferrari workshops the F40 was fully stripped and inspected, following which any area found wanting was addressed. Invoicing on file details the work completed which included major service, replacement of all fluids and new fuel tanks. Any minor cosmetic imperfections were addressed by the DL authorised body shop, again invoicing details this work.

The F40 quickly found a new home with a regular local customer, joining his small collection of always immaculate cars including at the time a concours 246 GT and Muira SV. He retained the car for just over a year covering only a few hundred miles on dry roads, storing it perfectly and returning it to Dick Lovett for any maintenance work.

We purchased the F40 directly from this second owner in 2013 and once again it sold quickly to a regular customer and friend with an enviable private collection of special cars, again all in immaculate order. Since purchase the F40 has once again seen limited use, the mileage rising to just 23,000 km to date. In 2014 Ferrari Classiche accreditation was issued and the invoicing for this and red book accompany the car. Maintenance has been regular and entrusted to Dick Lovett Ferrari and F40 specialists DK Engineering. In 2015 DK completed a top end engine rebuild due to a defective valve, an invoice on file amounting to £32,000 provides a detailed breakdown of the extensive work completed.

In this last ownership the interior was retrimmed by Ferrari trim supremo O Rourke, as usual this work has been completed to the highest standards using only the factory original materials. A unique set of loose-fitting leather sill covers and floor mats were specially made for the car to protect the vulnerable exposed carbon fibre surfaces.

This is a very nice original, unmolested and ‘honest’ F40 that has been carefully looked after by just three diligent Ferrari collectors from new. It comes with Ferrari Classiche and a good history as detailed above and will be correctly checked and serviced prior to supply to a new owner.
