The Ferrari 246 Dino GT received a signal honour from Enzo Ferrari, in that he allowed the car to be named after his son Alfredino, who died in 1956, aged only twenty-four. Enzo Ferrari credited his son with the inspiration for a series of successful small and medium capacity V6 racing engines, and in turn the name was given to a new line of mid-engined production Ferrari V6 coupés which first went on sale in 1969 with the two litre 206 Dino GT and swiftly acquired the reputation it has never lost for being one of the most beautiful sports cars ever built. The definitive version for many was the 246 GT Dino, with its 2.4 litre V6 engine; it appeared in late 1969, produced 175bhp at 7,000rpm and 160lb/ft at 5,500rpm which provided a top speed of 141mph and zero to 60mph acceleration in 7.9 seconds.
Designed by Pininfarina, the magnificent bodywork was built in steel by Scaglie
