Description

Fantastic low mile Ferrari with carbon fiber interior trim, excellent cosmetics, and known ownership since new2013 Ferrari Californias/n ZFF65TJA2D0192551Silver with Black Leather InteriorIntroduced in 2008 at the Paris Motor Show, the Ferrari California was a dramatic departure for Ferrari. Certainly, the Masters of Modena had built many Grand Touring cars throughout their years of development, but the California was a bold move even for this innovative company. The Ferrari market, having flourished in California for so many years, was due for a celebrated offering, reviving the moniker once used for the iconic 250 GT and revered 365 California. The newly derived front mounted V8 powered platform was compact, reliable, and capable of delivering nearly 450hp, uniquely coupled to a then brand new Getrag 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Intended to attract new buyers to the Ferrari brand, the Pininfarina design was executed by Ferrari Enzo designer Ken Okuyama, now independently designing and developing exclusive hyper-cars for clientele in Japan. Among the many novel technical features developed for this platform, the California included the Ferrari F1-Trac System which allowed for variable power distribution to the rear wheels offering greater stability and acceleration. Indeed, the California delivered on that promise eclipsing super-car territory with 0-60 times in 4.0 seconds and a 193 mph top speed – an achievement attributed to it being the most aerodynamically efficient road car Ferrari had ever made. After an impressive production run, the California concluded in 2017 with a mere 1,219 examples built in 2013. Beautifully designed and built using the finest in contemporary precision manufacturing, the most striking aspects of the all new design is the disappearing metal roof. With the touch of a button, the folding top performs an engineering ballet of mesmerizing reconfiguration as it transforms, in a matter of seconds, from a fixed roof design to a fully open road car. With the roof concealed beneath the aggressive rear haunches, the California delivers unfettered open road touring and fantastic road manners due in part to multi-link rear suspension, yet another first for Ferrari. Once again using Formula 1 simulation programs, the convertible body design allows drivers to enjoy high speed open-air driving and smooth cockpit air management in either convertible or coupe configuration via carefully engineered and diverted airflow. This rare Ferrari California is one of just 1,219 built in 2013. Having covered only 13,000 miles since acquired new, the car remains displays beautiful cosmetics, ready for enjoyable use. According to the recently printed Carfax, this car was originally delivered and sold through Cauley Ferrari in West Bloomfield, MI January 7, 2013. On January 21, 2013 the car was sold to the first owner, George James, who retained the car until 2017. During this period of ownership, the car was regularly serviced at Cauley Ferrari with service entries recorded in the service booklet at 43,22 miles, June 24, 2014 and 10,180 miles, May 8, 2016. The second owner purchased the car with just over 10,000 miles recorded, transferring it to its next owner in Oklahoma in 2017. The car remained in Oklahoma until sold to the third and current owner, a resident of California, in March 2019, then showing 13,003 miles. Finished in the elegant color combination of silver over black leather interior, the beautiful paint contrasts the interior perfectly, with sporting elegance and performance accents revealed in the interior and exterior. The overall cosmetic condition of the car speaks to the care it has received under previous and current ownership, limiting the miles while properly maintaining and detailing it to a high-quality driver level presentation. The recent Carfax shows no accidents or damage, regular service, and recent passing results for California emission tests. Cosmetically, this California is in very nice condition as evidenced by the low miles it has covered since new. The paint finish is quite nice throughout, showing excellent gloss and no significant cosmetic flaws, just a few minor scuff marks along the lower rear panel and minor surface scratches typical of gentle road use. The dramatic sloping windshield, contrasting black roof, and beautiful silver paint create a handsome contrast to the aerodynamically derived but aggressively shaped design. The glass, lighting, and lenses are in excellent condition with no notable chips or marks evident. The emblems and script are nearly flawless, including the distinctive “California” script derived from the same font as the California license plate. All panels display excellent fit throughout the car including very nice inner trunk and hood surfaces and inner door jambs. The 20” alloy wheels and Pirelli P Zero tires (dated July 2018) are accented by red brake calipers, all of which are in excellent condition with the exception of one rim edge which has a light scratch mark and two small chips along the bead edge. The retractable roof is finished in gloss black, giving the car a sporty, lower profile appearance in coupe configuration. The top mechanism functions properly and appears in excellent cosmetic condition with tight fit to the windshield and smooth nesting when stowed. With the top down, the rear tonneau displays excellent part lines to the fitted pieces. The interior of the car is in especially nice condition. The black leather is supple and smooth with excellent surfacing and no marks of note. Contrasted with silver stitched diamond pattern seat and door inserts, the optional carbon fiber center “ribbon” console and F1 derived steering wheel adds a distinctive touch of sporting energy to the interior. The dashboard, instruments and switches are all in near new condition, as one might expect from a documented low mile car. The steering wheel, dash pad, and instrument cluster are free of notable wear. The driver’s seat has no significant marks or notable bolster wear while all other leather surfaces including the center console, door panels, visors, and A-pillars are all in excellent to near new condition. Carpeting is in very good condition with just minor use evident in the driver’s footwell. The headliner is also in excellent condition. In all, the interior is handsome and fresh with excellent fit and finish befitting a car of this stature. The trunk area is very clean and consistent with the rest of the interior, essentially factory original offering space for soft luggage and weekend travel even when the top is retracted in the trunk area. Clearly the previous owners have maintained this car with proper care and enthusiastic consideration, while minimally accruing just over 13,000 original miles. Under the hood, the innovative V8 has been properly maintained with excellent castings, factory housings and original accessory equipment as delivered. All Ferrari number plates, factory installation stickers, and verification markings are in place and in excellent condition. The original engine, vivid red intake plenums, and the engine compartment are clean and correct. The underside of the car shows signs of use but, owing to low miles and modest use, remains clean and unmodified. There is no evidence of structural compromise or accident damage, further supported by a clean Carfax dating back to delivery when new. The car starts, drives, and shifts beautifully with no hesitation in power and remarkably smooth acceleration throughout the glorious powerband. The snappy throttle response and sharp steering deliver road manners exactly as described when the motoring press celebrated these cars when new. Highly capable but when prompted and rewardingly quick, the cornering and braking clearly evidence the Formula 1 technology Ferrari employed for use in their road cars. A complete Ferrari tool set, all manuals, and factory ownership accessories including the car cover, car cover bag, and battery conditioner accompany the car. Priced at nearly $200,000.00 when new, the Ferrari California represents one of the best values available in a superlative and exclusive sports car. This low mile example is presented with beautifully maintained finishes, ready to drive and enjoy in either coupe or convertible configuration – available at the press of a button. The elegant silver and black exterior contrasted with supple black leather and carbon fiber interior make this Ferrari California a compelling and dynamic combination of grace and power ready to please the next enthusiast.
