"Boxer! Why Ferrari's new 512BBi is his best supercar yet." – Car magazine testing 'SPD 657X', May 1982.

Brands like Apple, Coca-Cola, Nike, Google are brands recognizable the world over. So is Ferrari and interestingly the iconic Italian luxury sports car manufacturer was named ‘The World’s Strongest Brand’ in the 2019 Brand Finance Global 500 Report.

Founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1939 out of Alfa Romeo’s race division as Auto Avio Costruzioni the company built its first car in 1940.

The Cavallino Rampante or ‘prancing horse’ was the symbol chosen by Ferrari and it is recognized by just about every man, woman and child on the planet!

Having reasserted itself at the top of the supercar hierarchy with the first 'Boxer'-the 365GT/4 BB-Ferrari went one better with its successor, the 512BB introduced in October 1976 at the Paris Auto Show.

For the new car, Ferrari abandoned its long-standing practice of denoting a model by the capacity of an individual cylinder and adopted the Dino-type nomenclature where '512' indicates 5 litres/12 cylinders.

For the first time Ferrari put the engine behind the driver. Ferrari’s V12 Berlinetta cars always had the engine in the front, but with cars like the Lamborghini Miura and Countach capturing buyers attention, it was clear that Ferrari’s top model had to go the mid-engined route.

For the Ferrari faithful, the addition of the fuel injection was a welcome change, and the BBi is considered the most civilized of the Berlinetta Boxers.

The fuel injection brought about an increase of 20 foot-pounds of torque, helping the car feel much more tractable overall. With a potent 335 hp, performance remained extraordinary, and the 512 BBi could reach 60 mph from a dead start in just 5.4 seconds, leading to a healthy top speed of 174 mph.

By the time production came to an end in 1984, replaced with the Testarossa, Ferrari had built just 1,007 fuel-injected BBs. The model was also the last Ferrari to be hand-built under the guidance of famed coachbuilder Sergio Scaglietti.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE
In case one of only 1007 examples isn't exclusive enough, this 1983 Ferrari 512 BBi is one of the very rare examples supplied with the unique Ermenegildo Zegna trim. Only 27 examples are made in collaboration with the designer brand Zegna.

The car was completed at the Maranello Ferrari works and supplied new to its first owner in 1983.

The car is finished in Rosso Corsa with Sabbia (sand) with rare wool inserts from designer Ermenegildo Zegna.

The original Cromodora wheels were fully restored with correct markings, including re-chromed center hubs, and fitted with new correct-type metric Michelin tires.

All the glass is correct and flawless throughout.

The original Pioneer stereo and power equalizer continues to play well, and all gauges and lights function as intended. Furthermore, the factory air conditioning still blows cold.

Over the last ten years the BBi has been driven sparingly on dry days only and has been stored in a dehumidified garage when not in use.

The current odometer reading is only some 29,400 Kilometers.

The Ferrari is currently registered in Italy and we can assist with the registration procedure in other countries.

CONDITION EXTERIOR
This 512 Bbi is truly stunning condition wise. We have had several Ferrari 512 BB’s but it’s difficult to find a very nice example.
This specific example is in an absolute unique condition exterior and interior wise.

The cosmetics are superb with a beautiful paint and no signs of use or damages. The clamshell hood and enormous rear engine lid open and close very smoothly.

The fittings are excellent even as the front and rear bumper.

The wheels are in as new condition without any damages or signs of use.

All glass is in factory new condition so overall we can conclude that the exterior of this Ferrari is in a absolute beautiful condition, certainly for a 512!

CONDITION INTERIOR
Taking a seat inside is impressive. The cockpit is built around the driver and all buttons and switches give the driver the feeling to be in a very serious machine.

The condition of the interior is outstanding and the design is wonderful.

Only 27 Zegna examples are built and the extra attention to the interior design in comparison with the “standard” 512 make the car certainly more beautiful and unique.

The leather on the seats show very minor signs of use. The Zegna cloth inside is in as new condition.

The carpet doesn’t show any signs of use and the steering wheel and switches/buttons are don’t show any marks of significance.

All switches, meters and gauges are in a perfect working condition.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE
Mechanically, the 512 BBi starts immediately and runs beautifully.
The clutch engages firmly and the transmission shifts smoothly through all five gears.

What a car is the 512 BB to drive. The sound, the seat position, the power is just fabulous.

The car is handling as it should. Not too light but a bit heavy. You are constantly aware that you drive a serious car with a very serious engine.

The handling of the car is fabulous. Steering and braking is extremely accurate as you might expect of a Ferrari.

Yes it’s a big party to see and drive this Ferrari.
