THIS CAR
Unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 458 Speciale continued Ferrari’s tradition of developing even higher-performing and dynamically sharper variants of its front-line sports cars, as was done with the 360 Challenge Stradale and F430 Scuderia that preceded it.

For the Speciale, designer Pininfarina and the Ferrari Styling Center honed the standard 458 Italia’s bodywork. Visually distinct and including active aerodynamics that optimized downforce and drag, almost every exterior panel of the Speciale was new or modified. Notable enhancements included a vented front hood channeling away air exiting the radiator, and a Kamm tail reducing turbulence. Weight-saving measures shaved 200 pounds off a standard Italia.

The winner of “Best Performance Engine” at the prestigious 2011 International Engine of the Year Awards, the Italia’s 4.5-liter V-8 was revised with a 14.0:1 compression ratio, new pistons, higher-lift camshafts, new intake runners, and a low back pressure exhaust. Although torque remained constant at 398 lbs./ft. at 6,000 rpm, power was raised to 597 hp at 9,000 rpm, endowing it with more horsepower per liter than any other naturally aspirated engine. The seven-speed F1 dual-clutch transmission was remapped for quicker shifting. Derived from the LaFerrari supercar, upgraded Brembo carbon ceramic brakes coped with the increased velocities available.

Superior to the standard Italia by objective performance metrics, the track-ready Speciale could sprint to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds, 124 mph in 9.1 seconds, and lap Ferrari’s Fiorano test track in 83.5 seconds – 1.5 seconds quicker than the standard Italia, and 0.5 seconds swifter than even the 599 GTO.

This menacing-looking 458 Speciale is finished in unique special order with a matte black roof over a Nera Alcantara interior. Delivered new by Ferrari of Silicon Valley in Redwood City, California, in July 2015, this car was lavishly specified with over $117,063 of extra-cost options, including a slew of interior and exterior pieces rendered in carbon fiber and Alcantara, 20" forged dark painted wheels, carbon fiber racing seats, radio-navigation system, parking sensors and camera, racetrack telemetry kit, and titanium exhaust pipes, with its original window sticker displaying a total suggested retail price of $412,557.

The limited-production Speciale is the last naturally aspirated V-8 road car to roll out of Maranello and the ultimate iteration of the 458 platform. Accompanied by its original owner’s manuals, tools, keys, battery tender, covers, matching scale model and transferable seven-year maintenance package, this example displayed 101 miles on its odometer at the time of cataloguing and was serviced by its selling dealer in January 2018. Presenting impeccably throughout, this spectacular 458 Speciale would leave its new owner wanting for nothing.
