Description

Belgian registration papers

- One of the most beautiful Ferrari 2+2 coupés
- Full history, with service booklets stamped to date
- Excellent presentation and running order

Carrying on the tradition of front-engined V12 Ferrari 2+2 coupés, the 456 project began in 1989 and saw the car on sale from 1992. Designer Pininfarina put refinement and unflashiness ahead of an out-and-out sporting image, something merely hinted at by the pair of twin exhaust outlets. Adding dynamism, the indented side treatment incorporated air vents to help cool the engine. All in all, it was a remarkable piece of work, and featured carefully honed aerodynamics. With its fluid and pure lines, for some the 456GT is the most beautiful Ferrari ever made and it is certainly one of the company’s most legendary models. Including the slightly modified 456M GT of 1998–2003, a total of 3289 were made, after which the model gave way to the 612 Scaglietti.
These days it is rare to find a 456GT in such good condition as our featured car, given the tendency for premature ageing of the materials used by Maranello. Thus if the bodywork is faultless, it is the condition of the interior that is really striking. The leatherwork and carpet are as new, the centre console has been rectified so that it no longer suffers from warping, and the dashboard looks showroom-fresh. Splendidly finished in gunmetal grey, only the doors have been repainted; panel fit is irreproachable.
Equipped with the excellent six-speed manual gearbox, our 456GT has never left Belgium, where it was supplied new by Garage Francorchamps on 15 May 1995. With 91,100km (56,550 miles) on the clock, it comes with a full complement of duly stamped service books, running up to today. It is important to stress that the car has always been serviced within the official dealer network, by Autobedrijf Monza in St-Martens-Latem, FMA in Wijnegem and l’Officina in Overijse. The last service was carried out by l’Officina on 28 May 2018 and included changing the timing belts and a complete mechanical overhaul that took in a new clutch and new rear dampers. No further expenses are forseen, thanks to the care taken of the car by its three owners. Our test-drive was uninterrupted by unwelcome noises or by dashboard warning lights coming on to spoil our enjoyment of this fine motor car, whose original-specification exhaust allows the V12 to express itself to seductive effect. One of Pininfarina’s most beautiful designs, this is an exceptional machine, and an important part of Ferrari’s history.

This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in Paris, at the Espace Champerret, France, on June the 23th, 2019.
