Description

When Ferrari launched its brand-new 365 GTB/4 at the Paris Motor Show in 1968, the memory of Ferrari’s epic 1-2-3 win at the 24 Hours of Daytona the year before was fresh in the mind of the automotive world. Hence, the new car in the stable was dubbed “Daytona” in honor of that historic event – a name commonly used by all but Ferrari, which still refers to the car as the 365. This superb two-seat grand tourer was built until 1973, in both berlinetta and Spider formats, featuring the front-engine and rear-drive configuration. The V-12 tipo 251 engine was tuned to raise 352 hp, resulting in a top speed of 174 mph and acceleration from 0–60 mph in 5.4 seconds. The superb sloping nose and graduated body lines were the work of Leonardo Fioravanti of Pininfarina, demonstrating an evolution from Ferrari’s traditional curvaceous silhouette towards an avant-garde wedged profile. Ferrari-preferred coachbuilder Scaglietti bodied the car and, according to marque historians, only 1,406 were constructed over the six years of production.

Chassis 16699 was built specifically for the American market with air-conditioning, power windows, and instruments calibrated in miles. Finished in Nocciola (Hazelnut) with a Connolly leather interior in Nero (Black), it was no. 1124 in the assembly sequence and assigned Scaglietti body no. 1232. The car was completed on July 23, 1973, and delivered to William F. Harrah’s Ferrari dealership in Reno, Nevada. In January 1981, Donald L. Weber acquired the 365 from Lynn Burnett, as documented by copies of a Bill of Sale and checks on file. As is the standard for cars under his stewardship, it has been minimally driven and superbly maintained for 40 years. From 1986 through 1988, Mr. Weber paid in excess of $55,000 for cosmetic work, which included a color change to Ferrari Red, a process completed by Junior’s House of Color – all itemized in accompanying paperwork. The interior was re-trimmed in tan leather, with tan and black Daytona seats. On August 24, 1994, the 365 was shown by Mr. Weber in its new livery at the International Ferrari Concours d’Elegance in Monterey.

Mr. Weber’s 365 GTB/4 was submitted for Ferrari Classiche certification in 2015, and it received its Red Book later that year.

This exceptional Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona has just over 19,000 miles on the odometer and is accompanied by an expansive set of service records and documentation, including the original warranty and owner’s service book, owner’s manual, Servizi di Vendita e Assistenza book, purchase receipts, and Massini report. It is in every way what a Ferrari 365 should be – ultimately driveable, supremely showable, and superbly enjoyable.
