The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 first debuted at the Paris Salon in 1968 as the successor to the highly acclaimed 275 GTB/4. In prototype form, with dark blue metallic paint, it was an instant hit. Though some would argue this should have been Ferrari’s opportunity to unveil a competitor to the upcoming mid-engined Lamborghini Muira, the success of the preceding 275 series offered little to no reason to change direction or engine placement.

The 365 GTB/4 bears the honor of being the last Ferrari to be constructed of hand-hammered steel along with an aluminum hood, doors, and trunk. Power came from an all-alloy, four-cam, 4.4 Liter V12 cranking out 352 bhp and 318lblft of torque allowing the 365 GTB/4 to be the fastest production car in the world at the time, with a top speed of 175 mph. Thanks to a race-inspired dry-sump lubrication system the engine was able to be mounted very low in the chassis providing for fantastic handling and road behavior. The V12 was mated to a five-speed transaxle which aided in balancing out the weight of the car, achieving a perfect 50/50 split. It featured no power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, and provided the option for air conditioning and power windows. Ferrari had yet again created a high-performance GT that delivered a brilliant driving experience that could best the likes of the Lamborghini Miura, Mercedes 300 SL, and Jaguar V12 E Type while remaining as comfortable as a period aged Fiat.

Though not an official title, the Ferrari 365 instantly gained the nickname “Daytona” as it was the first model revealed to the public after finishing in 1-2-3 fashion at the 24 Hours of Daytona and subsequently winning the world sportscar championship in 1967. The name is still relevant in the modern-day Ferrari world via the Daytona seat option, which has continued to be available on all current models.

This 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4, chassis #14207, is finished in stunning Rosso Chiaro over Nero Leather. It is a wonderfully original example showing only two owners from new, a single repaint in its life and time capsule interior. This example was purchased by the first of two owners in 1971 at William F. Harrah’s dealership in Reno, Nevada. As stated in the report from Ferrari expert Marcel Massini, chassis #14207 was originally configured in Rosso Chiaro, over a Nero interior, and sporting Borrani wire wheels when it left the Maranello Assembly line on March 27, 1971, with a sequence number 435 and a Scaglietti body number 445. The original owner held on to the vehicle for 46 years before parting ways in 2017 – leaving it in fantastic condition with only 29,000 original miles. During his ownership, the car was cared for appropriately and maintained as one would expect. Due to its loving long-term ownership over the years, this 1971 Ferrari GTB/4 presents wonderfully today, both mechanically and cosmetically. The most recent servicing according to our records was carried out in 2017 by The Intrepid Motor Car Company of Sparks, Nevada, and totaled just shy of $9,000. It included a carb rebuild, fluids change, tuning, and new tires amongst a host of other items. This GTB/4 represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a truly fantastic example of one of Maranello’s most revered twelve-cylinder, front-engined, high-performance grand touring cars ever produced.

Included in the sale are a full set of Cromodora wheels and tires, documentation, service records, owner booklets, and a complete tool kit.
