Description

William I'Anson Ltd. are honoured to present for sale the stunning Ex - Shell, Donald Campbell CBE, Sammy Hagar and Alistair Walker 1964 Ferrari 330.

Supplied new to the Shell Oil Company directly by Ferrari and used in a 72 hour high speed test by the two companies which was then the subject of a Shell advert showing the car, chassis, engine, and registration number along with the internal condition of the engine inspected at Maranello.

Sold to Donald Campbell CBE by Maranello Concessionaires in April 1966 and used by him during that year. Subject of much to’ing and fro’ing with Colonel Ronnie Hoare, with interesting correspondence within file, the last letter from Campbell describing the adverse condition he faced at Coniston Water in late December 1966.

Painted ‘Bluebird Blue’ in memorial of Campbell on Shell’s request by Maranello Concessionaires, and sold to Mr. Alan Rind on the recommendation of Mike Salmon through Colonel Hoare, with it being noted as the fastest 330 on the road thanks to its high lift camshafts and uprated valve springs.

Subsequently shipped to the U.S.A. in the early 1970s where it was bought by Van Halen front man Sammy Hagar in 1975, being his first taste of Ferrari ownership.

Bought by period Ferrari racing driver Alistair Walker in 1987 and shipped back to England where is was rebuilt with a Testa Rossa style body as the only one in right hand drive and the last of five cars which included that of Innes Ireland. Retained by Walker until his recent passing and used infrequently.

With a distinguished and highly interesting history, 06597 was never destined to be a regular 330 GT 2+2. Having been the property of household names in oil, land and water speed records, rock music and owned by a period Ferrari racing driver for 34 years, 06597 remains a matching numbers Ferrari with the lightweight and iconic lines of a Testa Rossa.

Now awaiting its next custodian, 06597 is a thrilling drive thanks to the torquey and powerful 4-litre V12 engine. Whether on the roads of the United Kingdom, Europe or further afield, the Ferrari offers a rewarding and emotive experience in emulating the sports-car greats of the late 1950s.
