Description
The Ferrari 308 (the model name refers to the 8-cylinder engine with a displacement of approximately 3,000 cc) was the successor to the Dino, and was the revival of the transversely mounted midship design, created by Leonardo Fioravanti of Pininfarina, whose masterpieces include the F40 and Daytona dramatic and elegant design later influenced the legendary 288 GTO.
Early models were carburettor versions, but in 1980, in response to emissions regulations, the Berlinetta and Spyder versions (308 GTBi/GTSi) were added with Bosch K-Jetronic injection. At this point, minor changes were made to the interior, such as a black steering wheel with slits, fishbone seats, a matt black instrument panel and a clock on the centre console, giving the interior a luxurious feel. However, the 308 GTBi/GTSi's somewhat anemic power was a major drawback, and two years later, Ferrari was back in full force at the Paris Motor Show with the 308 GTS "Quattrovalvole", which, as its name suggests, had four valves per cylinder. The new model was launched at the Paris Motor Show. The new 308 GTS was equipped with new valve angles, flat-headed pistons, new cylinder head material, new cylinder liner material (aluminium) and output of up to 240 hp in European specifications. Visually, the difference is characterised by the additional air outlets on the front bonnet. The changes to the engine compartment were accompanied by a number of styling changes. Further steering wheel redesigns and electrically adjustable rear-view mirrors combine functionality and design. The Quattrovalvole line-up included the fixed-roof GTB and the targa-style GTS with a removable roof section above the passenger compartment, with approximately 3,800 units of both bodies eventually shipped from Maranello during the 1982-1985 production period Maranello.
It features blacked-out louvers on the front hood and behind the headlights. Also, the indicator lens colour on the front bumper is amber. The door mirrors have been changed to a horizontal type with a Ferrari emblem made by Vitaloni and a spoiler is fitted to the rear end of the roof.
The car for sale is a 308 with a Ferrari Classique certificate of authenticity. The exterior and interior show age-related deterioration, but remain original. The car has been running well, so the internal systems are good, and you can feel the success of the 4-valve conversion in the nimble drive that allows you to fully enjoy the 8-cylinder Ferrari character. The car was imported by Cones, the authorised importer, and was built to Japanese specifications, i.e. between European and American specifications, with a catalyst, 235 hp and an exterior similar to the American specifications. The blue stickers on the wheels are the inspection stickers that come with the car when it leaves the factory, and it is rare to find a car with all four of them still in good condition, even from a global point of view. The inner cover with zip in the boot compartment is also rarely seen in such a clean condition. This car has been issued with a Ferrari Classique Certificate of Authenticity, which officially certifies the history of the car and its originality. This is truly a collector's car, but one that is a joy to drive, not just a car to admire.
