After the Ferrari 308 GTB was launched in 1975, some private teams and drivers wanted a competition version of it, but as Ferrari did not want to embark on such a project, it handed over responsibility for it to Giuliano Michelotto's workshop in Padua. Starting from a fibreglass-bodied version, Michelotto substantially modified the car to make it competitive in Group 4, and in France the Ferrari importer Charles Pozzi ordered four cars from him. With their blue and white Pioneer livery, these were undoubtedly the most famous Group 4 308 GTBs, and in the hands of Jean-Claude Andruet and Guy Chasseuil they showed how effective the car could be in rallying. In 1981, Andruet won the Tour de France Auto with Chantal Bouchetal, ahead of Bernard Darniche in his Lancia Stratos, the Rally di Sicilia, the Rally 4 Regioni and the 24 Hours of Ypres. Andruet came close to victory on the Tour de Corse, winning five special stages ahead of Jean Ragnotti's R5 Turbo, but had to retire with fuel supply problems.
The following year, Andruet again won the Tour de France Auto, with 'Biche' as his co-driver, while achieving a memorable second place on the Tour de Corse behind Ragnotti's R5 Turbo after a fierce duel until the last special stage. These results proved that the 308 GTB could excel in rallying, even on a route as challenging as that in Corsica, and explained why some privateer drivers chose to prepare their own cars, all the more so as Michelotto's production of the 308 GTB Group 4 was limited to 11 cars.

This was the case for the 308 GTB we are presenting, which was specially prepared as a Group 4 version by the Ferrari garage Karl Foitek in Zurich and the official dealer Werner Ruf SA from Oftringen in Switzerland, to be entered in several rounds of the Swiss championship in 1981. It was driven by Foitek, who won the races at Dijon, Imola and Patnot. During the Heimberg hill climb, the car came off the road without any damage and was unplaced.
According to the documents at our disposal, it appears that the preparation entailed the fitting of AP Racing Gr. 4 brakes, adjustable Gr. 4 suspension, 16-inch BBS magnesium wheels, adjustable Koni shock absorbers, a 3-litre V8 engine prepared by Michelotto and developing 305 bhp, a special exhaust system, Momo carbon-fibre seats with Sparco harnesses, and an original fibreglass body.
In 2000, the 308 GTB Gr. 4 underwent a full service with a view to taking part in the Ferrari Days at the Nürburgring. Since then, the car has competed in several editions of the Tour Auto, driven by its current owner, the CEO of Charles Pozzi Ferrari. It was, moreover, in the former workshops at Levallois that its engine was completely rebuilt.

Today, it represents an authentic competition car from its period: less expensive than a Michelotto, it is just as quick and has been prepared with the same precision. It is ready to take part in historic events where its originality and performance will make it stand out.
