Description

Unveiled at the October 1975 Paris Motor Show, the Pininfarina-styled Ferrari 308 GTB replaced the acclaimed but aged Dino 246. Well-balanced and thoroughly modern, the 308 was powered by a 2.9-liter DOHC V-8, and utilized double-wishbone suspension and four-wheel disc brakes. Enhancing the model’s appeal, a Targa-roofed GTS model arrived in 1977, identifiable by a black removable roof panel and louvered panels over the rear quarter glass.

One of approximately 3,219 carbureted models built between 1977 and 1980, this European-specification 1980 Ferrari 308 GTS is finished in classic Rosso Corsa (Racing Red) over a tan leather interior. In November 1980, this Ferrari was purchased by John Clifford Wavell of Los Alamitos, California, from Guidetti’s Cars in Milan. Subsequently imported into the US, the 308 was converted to US DOT and EPA specification. Owned by Mr. Wavell for almost 38 years, this Ferrari conveys with it a file of documentation illustrating his care and attention, including an invoice for a new Ferrari 308 engine installed in May 1982, and more recent receipts from 2017 to 2018 when restorative mechanical and cosmetic work totaling almost $48,000 was completed.

Accompanied by its books and tools, and wearing larger 16" Ferrari wheels, this open-roof Ferrari 308 GTS presents well throughout and will surely make a fine addition to any collection.
