Introduced in 1975, the glamorous 308 GTB, designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti, was the first Ferrari road car with a fiberglass—or “Vetroresina”—body. Only 712 such models were built before production was switched to steel panels, adding over 300 pounds to the car’s curb weight. Tipping the scales at a relatively light 2,315 pounds, the aerodynamic and well-balanced Vetroresina 308s have become an increasingly attractive choice for Ferrari enthusiasts looking for responsive performance and agile road-handling capabilities.

Delivered new in June 1976 via Motor s.p.a Roma, the official Ferrari dealer of Rome, this example came desirably equipped with the European-only, dry-sump-lubricated, transversely mid-mounted V-8 engine without the performance-choking emissions equipment required for United States-delivery examples. After a decade of use under European ownership, the car was imported to the United States in 1985 by Aldo Stanisavljevic of Lake Angelus, Michigan, under whose care the car would remain until the early 2000s.

From Mr. Stanisavljevic, the car would pass to Claes Flodin of Kaysville, Utah, who then sold it to Michael Call's Cavallino Equipment Group of Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Call began a three-year comprehensive refurbishment which was completed by the car’s next owner in late 2017. Hundreds of pictures and work invoices document the rotisserie restoration, which included stripping the body to bare fiberglass before a concours-quality refinish.

Mechanical work included a complete rebuild of the engine, transaxle, suspension, and braking components as well as all ancillary mechanical systems. The gauges and electrical systems were likewise fully reconditioned while the interior was sourced from Luppi Tappezzeria in Italy for the correct leathers and Wilton wool carpets. Total costs for the restoration are said to number over $200,000.

After a full rebuild of all mechanicals, the car was repainted in its original finish of Azzurro Metallizzato. First delivered with Pelle Blu upholstery, the interior was retrimmed in Pelle Beige leather with black inserts and a dark blue Wilton wool carpet. The car now presents as an exact copy of the 1975 Paris Motor Show car which introduced the 308 to the world.

The car was certified by Ferrari Classiche in 2019 and is accompanied by its Classiche Red Book, tool roll, and owner’s manual with service booklet and protective leather wallet. This rare, lightweight 308 GTB presents an excellent opportunity to add a spirited prancing horse to your stable.
