No single car company seems to draw as much attention as Ferrari. Their cars have been the desire of many, while being owned by few. With many models to choose from over the years, it is challenging for most individuals to determine their favorite. However, it seems that public perception has categorized which Ferraris are more popular than others. One such example is the Ferrari 308 GTB and GTS series. In the beginning, the 308 GTB debuted at the Paris Salon in October of 1975 as the successor to the 246 GT Dino. The model was initially only available as a coupe (GTB “Berlinetta”), the Targa version was introduced in 1978 (GTS “Spider”). This beautifully presented and wildly popular platform was designed by Leo Fioravanti and Pininfarina, who had also been the designer of the previous 365 GTB/4 “Daytona” and 246 GT Dino Ferraris.
This particular Ferrari 308 GTSi is reported as being delivered new on July 12, 1982 by Newport Importers of California (authorized Ferrari dealer), and it has a documented history that includes over 30 pages of invoices outlining detailed service and maintenance throughout the life of chassis #37145, dating back to March 1985.
This Spider has been stored in a climate controlled environment by its caring owner to be both appreciated and enjoyed, all while preserving it as a piece of Ferrari history. For its first outing in 10 years, 37145 was transported by flatbed to Daytona Auto Centre (Ferrari specialist) to be serviced. During this Ferrari service, all belts, fluids, minor and major components were replaced as needed by Ferrari technician Masimo Conti, former technician to Michael Schumacher and his Formula 1 Ferrari race team. A detailed invoice for $14,956.40 is included in the history for the most recent service that was performed on November 14, 2015.
The car is presented in its original silver with black interior color combination. It is one of 1,743 308 GTSi models built over its three year production run. The mid-mounted 2,926-cc, 214-hp fuel-injected DOHC V-8 engine and five-speed manual transmission are reported as being original equipment to this car. Limited-slip differential, air conditioning, power windows, radio and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes are accompanied by the original manuals and original service book. This is an obtainable and complete package that has rarity, chronological history and has been sparingly driven with ultimate attention to detail with regards to servicing and maintenance of items related to the overall presentation of the vehicle. Representing a turning point in Ferrari history with Bosch fuel injection, this is a still affordable Ferrari that shows all indications of having the ability to rapidly appreciate.
