There is no doubt that the Ferrari 275 GTB was an incredible automobile from the moment it was initially unveiled in 1964. However, for those looking for something with a bit more panache, the model could be had with a number of optional extras to increase its potency. In addition to several updates that were implemented as rolling changes on the production line, this kept the 275 GTB ahead of the competition throughout its production run.

When considering the greater 275 GTB hierarchy, it is clear that chassis no. 08311 is truly one of the most desirable produced and one of the most noteworthy examples offered in quite some time. Boasting not only aluminium coachwork, six Weber carburettors and built to the later torque-tube specification, this is the very first 275 GTB to bear these particular features and just the second 275 GTB to be fitted with a torque tube. Finished in rare Nero (20-B-50) over a Beige (VM 3390) leather interior, it was sold new through Renato Nocentini in Prato-Florence to Carlo Bini.

Registered in Florence with registration no. FI 315850, the car passed through a couple of subsequent owners in Naples and finally Pero, Italy, before being imported to Los Angeles, California, and sold to Barry Le Fave in 1973. Upon its arrival in California, the car was noted as still being finished in its original colour combination and as of two years later, had only been driven 31,000 km. Later that year, it was refinished in red over black. In 1980, the car was returned to Italy and re-registered in Padua on registration no. PD 622433. Shortly thereafter, it was purchased by Luigi Compiano of Treviso, Italy, and remained in his vast car collection for nearly four decades.

Following its purchase by the current owner, the car was shipped to the UK where it was Ferrari Classiche certified. Subsequently, the old red paintwork was stripped back to the beautiful bare aluminium, which was found to be in superb, original and damage-free condition, and from there it was returned to its original and rare shade of Nero. The interior was fully stripped in order to return the car to its original Beige. Additionally, the correct, 10-hole knock-off wheels were refurbished and fitted with correct Michelin XWX tyres, a new period-correct exhaust was fitted, the suspension has been fully rebuilt, and the car’s chrome trim was fully refinished and polished. A complete top to bottom engine rebuild was completed by Aldo Ritti at the Ferrari specialists Riverside Performance in Esher, Surrey, and paintwork was completed by Steve Moody of SMDG Ferrari specialists in Horsham, West Sussex, in his new paint facility. Additionally, it is important to note that the car is accompanied by a correct 275 GTB tool kit, jack, handbooks and history file, including photos from the car’s previous restoration in the U.S., as well its most recent detailed restoration work in the UK. One other item of note accompanying the car is its original, old-style Italian Libretto, a document all too often lost over the years.

Now back in its original, striking colour scheme and fully certified by Ferrari Classiche, chassis no. 08311 is a 275 GTB that wants for nothing and is truly worthy of inclusion in any of the world’s most exclusive Ferrari collections. Needless to say, it would be a brilliant car to drive and enjoy or one that would surely attract plenty of attention at the world’s most exclusive concours events.
