Description
Ferrari 275 GTB: A Pinnacle of 1960s Gran Turismo Engineering
Unveiled at the 1964 Paris Motor Show, the Ferrari 275 GTB marked a significant evolution in Ferrari's road car lineup. As a successor to the legendary 250 series, the 275 GTB was the first road-going Ferrari to feature a fully independent suspension and a rear-mounted transaxle gearbox — innovations that provided superior balance and handling. Designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti, the 275 GTB combined elegance with race-inspired aggression.
Its long-nose redesign, introduced in late 1965, addressed aerodynamic lift at high speeds and gave the car a sleeker, more balanced profile. Powered by a 3.3-liter Colombo V12 engine, the 275 GTB offered exhilarating performance with a distinct mechanical symphony that has become a hallmark of Maranello’s finest. The model's rarity, timeless design, and motorsport pedigree make it one of the most desirable Ferraris of the classic era.
1966 Ferrari 275 GTB Long Nose – Chassis 08489
This exquisite Ferrari 275 GTB Long Nose, chassis number 08489, was delivered new in May 1966 through the Franco-Britannic Automobiles dealership to Mr. Albert Prost, a prominent French industrialist based in Roanne, north of Lyon.
Mr. Prost was not only a successful entrepreneur but also a passionate and discerning Ferrari collector. His exceptional stable included legendary models such as the Ferrari 250 LM, 250 GT Tour de France, and this very 275 GTB — a testament to his taste for rare and significant examples from Maranello.
Originally finished in the stunning combination of Celeste Metallizzato over a Beige leather interior, chassis 08489 remains one of the most elegantly specified examples of the model. Due to the breadth of his collection, Mr. Prost used the car sparingly. As a result, it retains a remarkably low and documented original mileage of just 39,000 km.
Following Mr. Prost’s passing in 2004, his extensive collection was inherited by his widow. In a gesture of familial legacy, she later gifted the 275 GTB, along with a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, to their grandson — from whom we subsequently acquired the car.
Prior to our purchase, chassis 08489 underwent a professional bare-metal respray to its original color by a respected body shop, complemented by a mechanical overhaul carried out by a renowned French specialist, ensuring the car performs as beautifully as it presents.
Today, the car is in exceptional condition, with its original and beautifully patinated interior still intact — a rare and treasured characteristic among collectors. Importantly, all numbers are matching, and the vehicle is accompanied by its original books, tool kit, spare wheel, and a comprehensive history file documenting its provenance and maintenance from new.
