About the 250 GT Lusso

The Ferrari 250 GT Lusso occupies a special place in the history of Maranello, representing the elegant grand touring interpretation of the legendary 250 GT lineage. Introduced in 1962, the Lusso was conceived for discerning drivers who sought the performance and engineering pedigree of a Ferrari sports car combined with greater comfort, refinement and everyday usability.

Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October 1962, the 250 GT Lusso was designed by Pininfarina and bodied by Carrozzeria Scaglietti. Its beautifully proportioned fastback silhouette, long bonnet, delicate detailing and distinctive rear profile created one of the most celebrated automotive designs of the 1960s. Unlike the more uncompromising competition-oriented models of the period, the Lusso was conceived as a two-seat grand tourer, combining sporting character with a more accommodating and luxurious interior.

Sharing important mechanical elements with Ferrari's competition-bred sports cars, including the renowned V12 Colombo engine, the Lusso delivered impressive performance while retaining the refinement expected of a sophisticated grand touring automobile. Its combination of a front-mounted V12, a five-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel disc brakes made it a particularly advanced and engaging road car for its time.

The 250 GT Lusso occupied a distinctive position within Ferrari's range, bridging the gap between the sporting 250 GT SWB Berlinetta and the more spacious 250 GTE 2+2. It was never intended as a dedicated competition model, yet its engineering pedigree remained unmistakably connected to Ferrari's racing heritage. Production continued until 1964, with approximately 350 examples built, making the Lusso a relatively rare model even within the illustrious 250 GT family.

As the final road-going expression of the 250 GT lineage, the Lusso was succeeded by the Ferrari 275 GTB, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Ferrari's grand touring history. Today, the 250 GT Lusso is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful road cars ever produced by Ferrari. Its combination of Pininfarina design, Colombo V12 performance, exceptional craftsmanship and limited production has secured its position as one of the most desirable and enduring icons of the marque's golden era.

About Chassis #4563 GT

The example offered here is a beautifully restored European-delivery car in excellent condition, which was completed by the factory on 9 March 1963. Chassis no. 4563 was finished in its original delivery colour combination of Grigio Argento over Nero Franzi and delivered new through the official Ferrari dealer Garage Fontanella & Co. in Turin. Its first owner, Vittorio D’Agostino, registered the car in Italy in July 1963. The Lusso was clearly enjoyed from the outset, having returned to the Ferrari factory for servicing in October of the same year, by which time it had covered approximately 11,421 kilometres.

The car subsequently made its way to France, where it was acquired by Maurice Sauzay of Lyon in 1970. In 1977, it passed into the hands of Jean Richard of Curgies, who kept the car in storage for approximately fourteen years. In October 1991, the Lusso was purchased by Roger Vermon, who undertook a restoration during which the car was refinished in red with a black interior.

In December 2006, chassis no. 4563 came to Switzerland when it was acquired by Jean-Pierre Clément. The car subsequently passed into the hands of Ferrari collector Jean-Pierre Slavic, who acquired it in 2009. Under his ownership, the Lusso underwent a comprehensive restoration between, carried out by respected Italian marque specialists, including Bacchelli & Villa and, reportedly, Autofficina Bonini. Particular attention was paid to returning the car to its original delivery specification, including its elegant Grigio Argento exterior and Nero Franzi interior. In 2009, the car was also granted Ferrari Classiche certification, confirming the originality of its engine, gearbox and differential.

Following completion of the restoration, the Lusso participated in the 2011 Italia Classic, undertaking a journey from Maranello to Venice and back. In 2015, it also took part in the Spirit of Yves Classic Run from Monaco to Terre Blanche, demonstrating its suitability for the kind of grand touring for which the model was once conceived.

In 2021, the car was offered at RM Sotheby’s Milan auction, before subsequently being acquired from B.I. Collection, an authorised Ferrari dealership in Zurich, by its current owner, who has retained it ever since. The odometer currently shows a mileage of 4,131 km.

Today, this Ferrari 250 GT Lusso presents as a particularly attractive example of one of Maranello’s most celebrated grand touring automobiles. Its early Italian provenance, subsequent French and Swiss ownership, Ferrari Classiche certification and comprehensive restoration to its original delivery colour scheme combine to make chassis no. 4563 an especially compelling proposition for any discerning collector.
