These days the Ferrari 250 GTE would be considered a modest sales success. Between 1959 and 1963 nearly 1,000 of these cars were built. Compared with current Ferrari sales that may seem quite meagre. The Ferrari 250 GTE was, however, the first 4-seater Ferrari to be produced in large numbers and none the less had a hefty ticket price. The margins were good allowing Enzo to concentrate on what he loved best, and that was racing! Our Ferrari 250 GTE Series 1 came on the road in 1961 and has retained her original engine, making it a matching numbers car. Recently a full restoration and overhaul was carried out. It will therefore come as no surprise that this Ferrari 250 GTE is in exquisite condition on all fronts. The completely undamaged bodywork is in excellent shape. The panelwork is nice and thin with correct alignment. Recently it has been re-sprayed in a dark grey metallic finish. The Borrani wire wheels are splendid. The pristine paintwork is totally unmarked and the brightwork is similarly gorgeous. It has black leather interior trim with red carpets. The black leather-clad dashboard looks great. All controls and instruments are in exemplary working condition. Underneath the Ferrari's there is evidence of extensive work. It was ice-blasted and then treated and protected against the elements. On the mechanical side both the engine and gearbox were rebuilt and are in the best of health. The Colombo V12 has 3 double Webers delivering some 240 Ps. There is a 5-speed manual transmission. The reconditioned Weber carburettors have been professionally tuned. A fully overhauled rear axle was fitted and the brakes and suspension were replaced. This Ferrari 250 GTE still drives as good as the day it left Maranello. We would be hard put to think of a more stylish GT from that period. This Ferrari 250 GTE does exactly what it promises; An inordinate amount of stylish driving pleasure as only a 60’s V12 Ferrari ca deliver. Enzo was mad about his 250 GTE and his clients immediately knew why. This V12 Ferrari is exactly as it should be!
