"The Dino, named in honour of Enzo Ferrari’s son, was a brand for V6 engined Ferraris and the project that Alfredo ‘Dino’ Ferrari worked on before he died tragically of muscular dystrophy at just 24 years old. In order to homologate Ferrari’s Formula Two entry in 1966, the FIA requested that 500 production cars were produced using the same V6 unit as the race car. The Fiat Dino was born using the two-litre V6 Ferrari unit which was later used in the early 206GT versions of the Dino. Ferrari used the mid-engined configuration that was working well for them in sports car racing for the new Dino and the prototype 206S was shown at the 1966 Turin show. The car drew a positive response and Ferrari put the car into production, making it the first mid-engined production Ferrari. A 2.4 litre version on a longer wheelbase, the 246GT, replaced the Dino 206 in late 1969. The beauty of a mid-engined sports car is the handling, as the improved centre of gravity lends itself to better road holding. A Ferrari Dino has great cornering ability and is an enormously fun car to drive.
Originally registered to Mr. P. Thorpe in Woking, Surrey on 7th January 1972 and purchased by the current vendor in May 1990. This car was in a dismantled and poor condition when purchased 33 years ago, with the body having been removed from the chassis in order to deal with a number of issues including corrosion. The vendor at the time agreed to carry out certain works on the car including the bodywork issues and he re-united the body with the chassis. This was progress and at last the current owner had a rolling chassis to transport, along with a vast number of parts, including the engine, gearbox and ancillaries, interior, brakes and glass. Fortunately, the vendor’s brother was a former Formula 1 mechanic and between them they spent three years putting the car back together, with the vendor taking care of the interior trim. Originally silver, the car was repainted in Ferrari Rosso Rubino Metallizato (Ruby Red metallic) and was MoT’d in July 1994 showing a mileage of 23,120 at the time. Now displaying a mileage of 25,158, thus this Ferrari has covered 2,038 miles in 33 years. Major work was carried out in October 2008 which included a partial engine rebuild, the mileage being 24,214 at the time. 
There is room for sympathetic improvements to be made on this right hand drive Dino 246 GT, which now shows age-related wear and tear. We are advised that the lighting switch on the steering column is a little temperamental. A large quantity of documents and invoices accompanies this Ferrari. Due to the fact that the car has been off the road for a number of years throughout its life, it is thought the mileage of 25,158 could well be correct, although not warranted. It is widely agreed that the Ferrari Dino is one of the best-handling and most gratifying automobiles of the early 1970s; it is certainly one of the most attractive, delicately balanced designs ever produced by the masters at Pininfarina."
