Facel Vega produced 183 customer examples of its Facel II—a Franco-American blend adored by Sir Stirling Moss—between October 1961 and May 1964. Chassis number HK2B146 was originally specified in Silver Grey over Rouge leather and fitted with a three-speed automatic Chrysler TorqueFlite gearbox.
Housing a 6.3-litre V-8, also sourced from Chrysler, this ‘B Series’ model was delivered new via Auto Becker in Düsseldorf. The Facel II was first owned in Frankfurt before passing to an Iranian, who stored the car in a museum prior to returning it to Germany in 1978.
From 1992, the car was retained by a member of the German Facel Vega Car Club. Early into their ownership, they commissioned marque expert Diemer & Dalheimer in Saarbrücken with a body-off restoration that took five years to complete. Given the meticulous rebuild, the Facel II was honoured at concours events and displayed at Retromobile in Paris in 2010 prior to being purchased by the Dutch consigning owner in May 2012. The Facel II was exhibited at the 2021 Zoute Concours d’Elegance in the class for the most elegant post-war closed-cockpit cars, winning a rosette for its interior.
Presented in black over red, this Facel II is now equipped with a four-speed manual transmission. Following a period of static display, it will require mechanical recommissioning.
