Description

When Ford recognized the need for an Italian muscle car for the North American market, De Tomaso Automobili answered the call. The De Tomaso Pantera was hand built by Ghia in Torino and transported to the De Tomaso factory in Modena for installation of the Ford 351 Cleveland V-8 engine and ZF transaxle.

Built in July 1973, this Pantera L was originally dispatched to Lynch Lincoln-Mercury in Hermosa Beach, California, and was one of only 90 cars finished in green during that model year. The original owner died shortly after purchasing it in 1974 and the Pantera was subsequently garaged by his family for the next 15 years. The car was then sold to its second owner, Charles Gray of Wisconsin and, in 1997, it was acquired by its third owner still showing just 4,978 miles on the odometer.

Today, chassis 5924 is with its fourth owner, and not only does it show just over 12,000 miles on the odometer, but it is also preserved in largely original, unrestored condition, down to its Goodyear Arriva tires. The consignor reports that the Pantera retains its original paint, interior, and major components, except for the steering wheel, which is a period aftermarket item. The Pantera comes with a Marti report, tool kit, period photos, and an extensive documentation file, which speaks to the dedication and diligence of its owners.

This well-preserved Pantera is as pure and attractive an example of this classic Italian exotic as you’re likely to find. It deserves to be cherished and preserved by its next dedicated steward.
