Designed by Tom Tjaarda, and built by Ghia, the Pantera was launched in 1970 and subsequently updated in 1973 to the Pantera Lusso (Luxury). It was powered by a mid-mounted 300bhp, Ford 351 cubic inch V8 Cleveland engine, mated to a five-speed ZF transaxle. With power-assisted disc brakes on all four wheels, rack and pinion steering, and dramatic good looks, this was a 1970's supercar capable of a top speed of just under 160 MPH and, at the time of launch, a 0-60 mph time of just 5.5 seconds. The history file accompanying this very interesting car confirms that it was in single ownership from registration in 1975 until 2014. Originally purchased by Ernie Whittaker in February 1975 on behalf of his 21-year-old nephew, Bob Evans, it was subject to a financial agreement between them, and when that was settled in 1978, the title passed to Bob. In the aforementioned history file are the sale agreement, loan agreement, paying-in book, and pictures of Bob with the car in 1975 when he was 21. Due to his age, his uncle had put the finance in his name until paid off by Bob.The original bill of sale confirms that this special car was originally ordered with air conditioning, magnesium sports wheels, 351-4V engine, 5-speed transmission, power disc brakes, electric windows, tinted glass and full instrumentation at a total cost of $11,753.26 including sales tax.#THPNND06705 was acquired by our Jersey-based vendor in 2016 and, with just over 24,000 miles on the clock, looks to be in very original condition indeed. The interior is excellent but the Pantera's exterior is starting to show its age with faded paint and cracks in a number of areas. There are some blemishes to the bodywork particularly the passenger door, rear right-hand corner, bonnet, and the front of the car - as you might expect from a 44-year old car that has never been restored. Our vendor reports that mechanically the car performs well following a recent engine recommission, which included new exhaust headers, carburettors and a starter motor and the brakes are excellent having just had all the callipers professionally refurbished with new pads all round. The De Tomaso is supplied with the original Bill of Sale, loan agreement, copy US Title docs, the owner's manual, delivery mileage certificate, various receipts, photographs of the first owner with the car, a UK MoT and its NOVA reference.
