Description
Chassis No. 8MA748
The Mangusta was De Tomaso's second production car, evolving from a Shelby-developed prototype by Peter Brock. Introduced in 1967, this mid-engined grand tourer boasted handsome styling penned by Girogetto Giugiaro of Carrozzeria Ghia and featured an array of standard amenities including leather upholstery, power windows, and air conditioning. Beneath its distinctive center-hinged gullwing engine covers lay a 5.7-liter Ford V8 producing more than 300 horsepower, channeled through a ZF five-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. With 401 units produced, the Mangusta established De Tomaso on the global stage.
Originally specified in Silver according to the De Tomaso Registry, this 1969 De Tomaso Manguta was delivered new to the U.S. and was imported to Germany in 1990. The Mangusta was expertly restored at Auto-Neuser in Nuremberg that year, with photos on file showing a repaint to its current light blue metallic finish; combined with a black leather interior. The car remained in Nuremberg until 2013 when it was purchased by the consignor in Munich. Its FIVA Identity Card notes that the Mangusta has also been subtly enhanced with a Holley 4260 carburetor as well as slightly larger tires front and rear.
Today, this beautifully-restored example is offered with its FIVA Identity Card, original German registration, and the aforementioned photos from its meticulous restoration.
