"The E-20 was manufactured from 1935 and offered the choice of coachbuilt Saloon, Sports Saloon, Fixedhead Coupé and Drophead Coupé bodies on a notably stiff box section chassis that featured integral lubrication and jacking systems. The model was powered by an OHV straight-six engine with output of 19.3HP - sufficient for a top speed of almost 70mph. This was mated to a four-speed pre-selector gearbox via Daimler's patented fluid flywheel. Suspension was by semi-elliptic springs and beam axles all round and braking by Girling servo-assisted drums. The total production of E-20s was some 873, of which it is thought around 35 are known to have survived, making it a rare car today. Daimlers were the sole Royal Appointment cars up to 1950 and this delightful example is very much in this tradition.
Originally registered on 4th February 1936, this Daimler has only had five former keepers throughout its 84 years on the road. Space, comfort, luxury and visibility are offered in abundance with this vehicle, which is finished in the delightful colour combination of Midnight Blue and black livery. The current vendor purchased VN 8275 in 2017, however he very rarely uses the Daimler due to living abroad; hence it has only covered circa 140 miles during his stewardship and will require some light recommissioning. This Daimler featured in Brian Smiths book ‘Daimler Days’ volume three, including the front cover shot, Brian was the owner of the car at the time of writing. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a spare pair of front wings, this MoT exempt Daimler E-20 offers a rare opportunity to purchase a splendid piece of British motoring history.
