"Jaguar first introduced the XJ6 saloon, available in either 2.8 or 4.2 litre engines, in 1968. The range was well received and the following year they added a Daimler version, the Sovereign, distinguished by the traditional ‘fluting’ on the radiator grille and the rear number plate plinth. In 1972, they added a 5.3 litre, V12 engine to create the Jaguar XJ12 which was capable of 145mph making it the fastest four-door production saloon car in the world at the time. It was at this time that long-wheelbase versions were added to the options for both the XJ6, XJ12 and Daimler models which, by 1973, had became standard on all the models. The Daimler V12 was known as the Double-Six, named after the twelve cylinder car first produced by them in the 1920’s. In 1975 fuel injection replaced the four carburettors, increasing power to a healthy 285bhp and with only 1925 righthand drive Series II cars produced makes these grand saloons rare cars today. The car’s Heritage Certificate shows that it was manufactured in December 1977 and despatched a couple of months later, in February 1978, to be first registered in April of that year. Ordered in dark blue with Russet Red leather interior, this car has the rare options of air conditioning and chrome wheels. The car presents very nicely with the interior in particularly good order.
