The Daimler DB18 Barker Special Sports is a typically British car that many may have forgotten. It was not a car you frequently saw when new and now, many years on, you would come across them even less. That is quite remarkable in itself when considering this lovely stately British open tourer. The car was restored in the past and is still in a wonderful state. Being a 1951 supplied car it is one of the later Daimler DB18’s.

The neatly maintained bodywork has nice and thin, correctly aligned panelwork. A two-tone respray of the paintwork formed part of the restoration. The paintwork has held up well with only minor blemishes here and there. The original wheels have beautiful chrome hubcaps. The hood was also replaced and remains in good shape. The hood shuts neatly and is easy to operate.

The Daimler’s interior is typically British, meaning a pleasant abundance of wood and leather. The whole of the car’s interior was replaced during the restoration including all of the woodwork. The carpets are still in good shape and fit neatly. The good quality leather is supple and looks splendid. The dashboard has clear instruments and switching gear all in good working order. There is space for one person in the back seated in a so-called “sideways facing seat”. If you were planning a substantial trip and needed the extra space, it is good to know the rear seat is easily removed.

The Daimler has a 2.5-litre straight-six producing 85 Ps attached to a 3-speed with overdrive Wilson Pre-select. This makes the Daimler particularly suitable to tour in. This Daimler aspires, as befits a stately Brit, no sporty ambition and rather chooses to waft gracefully and elegantly through the countryside. In this case effortlessly. The rebuilt engine runs smoothly. The pre-select fits perfectly with the car’s relaxed character. Thanks to the overdrive, long distances are not a problem either. The suspension, of course, is fashioned to transport its passengers in the utmost comfort. The brakes are responsive and the engine bay is very neatly addressed. This car come from an era when cars were fitted with real engines.

The Daimler is accompanied by a large volume containing invoices, general information and manuals.

This is rather a special and beautifully appointed 1951 Daimler DB18 Barker Special Sports.
