Description
In 1971 4’988 Citroën SM left the works in Paris whereof only 4% were painted in “Rouge de Rio”, a colour available only in that year. Our example is one of those 200 SM’s. It is a Swiss delivery and was first registered on the 1st of February 1971. After (presumably) 2 owners this exclusive coupé was taken over by the vendor in September 1995 with then around 76’000 kilometres showing. As a mechanic and owner of a Citroën agency, he immediately replaced both timing chains and installed improved and modified chain tensioners in order to avoid notorious problems with the original units. To avoid further problems in the camshaft drive the air conditioning was disconnected to eliminate the additional load on the system. The SM was then occasionally driven and always well maintained. In 2014, the engine - including pistons and liners - as well as the clutch and starter motor were overhauled. In 2022 finally, the sequel received a complete knew paint job in its original colour and the black vinyl interior was recovered in brown leather. Since its last Veteran MOT from May 2022, the SM has only been driven around 500 kilometres and it now shows 100’000 kilometres in total. I rare chance to acquire a Swiss delivered Citroën with a Maserati engine in an exceedingly rare colour and in very good overall condition.
