EXTERIOR
Finished in a coat of solid black, the pint sized proportions of the Saxo VTS are a perfect interpretation of what a hot hatch should be. Changes from the standard Saxo are subtle but effective, with a deeper front bumper, lowered side skirts and a top mounted rear spoiler, as part of the factory VT kit, giving the Citroen a sporty edge.

Despite the extras body parts the VTS is still a genuine featherweight, especially by modern standards, with the supermini tipping the scales at just 935kg. With just 1 owner from new and less than 30k miles on the clock the overall condition of the car is very good; paintwork shows with a deep and even shine, with nothing more than a few stone chips and age related blemishes to note.

INTERIOR
Continuing the nostalgic, theme the interior of the VTS is a real throwback; fabric seats with multi-coloured patterned inserts are classic 90s French hatchback which appear in good order, showing in completely original condition the inserts remain bright whilst the fabric is free from any unsightly rips or tears.

Taking inspiration from Porsche’s less is more approach the interior of the Saxo is very much a no thrills affair. Electric front windows and airbags are both included however the sunroof is manually operated, helping to keep the weight well below a tonne. Thankfully Citroen decided there could be some compromise, and so the original CD/FM radio remains to provide some form of entertainment on the go.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Upon its release the first Saxo had an output of just 49 hp from its 1L inline 4, which gradually increased through variants until peaking with the VTS. Displacement was increased 1,587cc and upgraded to 16 valves, which meant output more than doubled from the original car to 118 hp. Pushing such a lightweight car led to great results, with a top speed of 127 mph and a 0-60mph time of just 7.8 seconds, the VTS was a wonderfully engaging car to driver, urging to squeeze every ounce of performance from the fantastic little inline-4.

Unlike many examples this Saxo is mechanically unmodified and has just been subjected to a full inspection and service, including spark plugs and cambelts to ensure it drives like new.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Offsetting the solid black paintwork a set of original 15″ silver alloys present in immaculate condition, sitting free from any scuffs or signs of curbing, with brand new tyres at each corner.

Looking good was only half the reason the Citroen engineers decided to fit larger alloys to the VTS, the main reason being it allowed the engineers to upgrade the braking system. Drums were replaced by discs at the rear whilst up front the standard discs were swapped for a set of 247mm vented discs. Systems on this car are all in excellent order, with brand new pads and discs fitted at the front before the car went on sale.

HISTORY FILE
Pre registered by main dealer P.C. Tonkin & Son on 24/04/2000, this Saxo VTS received its running in service at 1,492 miles before it was purchased by its first and only owner on 09/08/2000. The car was used very sparingly throughout its life, with a comprehensive log of MOT’s available online tracing mileage back to 2007 where the Citroen had covered just 21,937 miles.

When the car arrived for inspection it was in completely original condition and so received a light refresh, including a full service, new cambelt, new front brakes and fresh set of tyres.

Once common place on UK roads the VTS is now becoming a rarity, with just over 180 currently registered and taxed.

Present with the car is the complete original book pack, original service book, V5 and 2 sets of keys.
