Unique, a Citroën Mehari with just 932 kilometres on the clock! The car was featured in a showroom as a prop for years. A positive is that the car was started and moved regularly. Mechanically it is in tip top order despite its low mileage. How to describe to the uninformed what a Mehari is? It is a sort of beach buggy based on 2CV technology. The Mehari was often used by the rich in the south of France to take them from their villas to the beach. It is a unique car that could never be marketed again. Did you know that they forbad the Mehari in Germany because the ABS plastic shell could melt at temperature around the 400 degrees celcius mark. To be honest I suspect that a melting shell at those kind of temperatures would not be your biggest problem.

This example is naturally absolutely pristine. The car is attractively finished in a white exterior and blue hood, both in excellent condition. The hood fits well and still uses its original attachments. The light bodywork blemishes are hardly worth mentioning. The paintwork is completely original and is in good shape.

A glance inside reveals this is a Mehari 2+2, fitted with a small rear bench. It makes the Mehari all the more serviceable. The rest of the interior is pristine as expected with such a low mileage car. Again it is evident the car has always stood inside as the dashboard still looks exceptionally tidy. The Mehari’s interior is delightfully spartan and functional. All instrument and switching gear all work as they should.

Mechanically the Mehari is still in very good shape. Starting the car regularly has most certainly contributed to the engine’s smooth running. The 600cc two-cylinder boxer engine puts out 29 Ps, whilst producing that lovely characteristic 2CV prattle. The engine has the typical horizontal gear lever engaging the 4-speed transmission. Engine and transmission work perfectly. Brakes and suspension too are pristine.

The car comes with the original service booklet with space for the next owner to continue stamps at the appropriate intervals. Of course this one is a prime subject to become part of a genuine Citroën collector’s stock as there is not better Mehari around.
