Description
In 1955 The Citroën DS replaced the legendary Traction Avant model which had been in production basically unchanged for 23 years. The front wheel drive layout was maintained including placement of the engine longitudinally behind the gearbox which found itself in front of the forward axle. The design and the chassis layout of the new car was a major step forward compared not only to the predecessor but also to the competition domestically and abroad. From 1958, besides the four-door saloon, “Berline”, several estate versions with five doors, the “Break” with 7 seats the “Familiale” with 9 seats and the “Commercial” with five seats became available. During the 20 years of DS construction the model changed from the DS19 to the DS 20, DS 21, DS 21ie, DS 23 and to the DS 23ie but the Break was never offered with the injection engine. The example offered is one of only 6’055 Breaks completed with the DS 23 engine. The roomy Citroën with its folding seats in the boot section was first registered in France on the 31st of March 1973 and imported into Switzerland in June 2016 followed by a local registration. At the beginning of 2020, the owner decided to have his DS completely restored, a task that took around 2 years to complete. Since completion the pretty French has only been driven around 1’000 kilometres and consequently presents itself in very good condition. We now offer a very rare chance to acquire a legendary and rare piece of French “savoir vivre” with 7 seat capability and the most recent veteran MOT from May 2024.
