Chapron offered its own range of bodies, including a cabriolet known as " Le Caddy " built on the base of the ID 19. Just 34 examples of this version were produced.
The one we are presenting, as confirmed by the Chapron build sheet, was ordered by Schlotterbeck, the Citroën agent in Zurich, Switzerland. The chassis was delivered on 23 October 1962 and left the workshop on 22 November. This precious document specifies a " full presentation " for the bodywork and white paintwork, with matching fabric lined hood. The bright red upholstery matched the wheels and fog-lamps completed the standard equipment. This elegant cabriolet has obviously spent most of its life in Switzerland, as it was from the Musée automobile in Muriaux that the father of the current owner acquired the car in 1997. The father, a genuine Citroën connoisseur, vice-president of the SM Club of Norway and very active in the field of collectors' Citroëns, took his " Le Caddy " to Oslo in Norway, by road ! Previously restored, the car was serviced and the interior re-done to the original configuration, with the exception of the hood which became black. A former Citroën mechanic, he maintained the car himself, and decided to pass it on to his son in 2017. The bodywork has been repainted in the past and displays its specific badges and chrome trim, and the dashboard is competed by a Continental Edison radio. In good working order, this extremely rare example will be appreciated by aesthetes. It merits joining a new quality collection.
