Preserved and restored at the Peugeot Citroën DS Adventure Museum for over 20 years!
Launched in October 1982, the BX 16 RS was the highest-performance model in the range at the time. Its 1,580 cm³ XU5 engine with twin-barrel carburettor produced 90 ch and powered a car weighing less than 950 kg, a power-to-weight ratio that enabled it to rival several contemporary 1.8-litre saloons.
It came as standard with a 5-speed gearbox, a rev counter, tinted windows and a higher level of equipment than the BX 14. Before the arrival of the Sport, GT and GTi models, the 16 RS represented the dynamic top-of-the-range model in the BX Phase 1 range. Its production was limited to the model’s early years, which explains its current rarity.
Our example boasts a truly unique history for a car in this range! It began its life at the offices of the newspaper *Ouest France*, before being fully restored by former workers at Citroën’s Rennes factory. In 1998, it joined the Peugeot Citroën Aventure Museum, from which it was sold at an Aguttes auction in 2021!
In impeccable condition, it then found its way into the garage of an enthusiast looking for a popular and innovative car capable of covering long distances. It was then entrusted to the Citroën Conservatoire to carry out the work needed to get it roadworthy again (costing over €4,000 at the time). Several thousand kilometres were covered without incident, taking the car out into the countryside or to brand-themed gatherings. Original and, above all, rare in this condition, its success has never waned! Last June, further refurbishment work was carried out at Citroën to replace the hydraulic pumps and carry out various maintenance tasks to ensure it runs smoothly.
Still complete with its service books, manuals, spare keys and original documentation, this BX, in superb condition, is sure to delight even the most discerning collectors!
