Description

The Citroën 2 CV, a really inspired creation, is a simple and robust car which requires very little maintenance work. Its origins go back to the nineteen thirties when Pierre Jules Boulanger, an engineer working for Citroën, initiated a project entitled T.P.V., which stood for Toute Petite Voiture (very small car). He was assisted by a team which included Flaminio Bertoni and André Lefebvre.
The first prototype was completed in 1937 but unfortunately the development programme was interrupted by the onset of the Second World War. Testing started again in 1946 at the Ferté Vidame, a Citroën proving ground to the west of Paris. On October 7th 1948, the car was the chief talking point at the Paris Motor Show. Although it was initially heavily criticized, demand swelled rapidly and it was sometimes necessary for buyers to wait for several months to take delivery. Evolving over the years, the car remained in production until 1981! Beyond its unusual and idiosyncratic concept, the 2 CV became a fashionable cult object and then an icon of French motor industry history.
More than just a car, the “Deuche” or “Deudeuche” has become a lifestyle choice.
The car on offer, first registered on July 20th 1961, is in very good overall condition, having undergone a full restoration after sitting unused for a long period. The car was entirely dismantled right down to the chassis. The newly assembled vehicle was repainted in a nice shade of Glacier Blue and received a new fabric roof covering. The same thoroughness was devoted to the mechanical restoration, including the transmission and all-important suspension.
An 18 CV 425 cc engine replaced the original 12 CV unit (which was entirely rebuilt and will be delivered with the car). The passenger compartment provokes an irresistible urge to go for a leisurely ride. The characteristic slung seats, with blue and white stripes, the thin rimmed two spoke steering wheel and the dashboard instruments tell you that holiday motoring is the only important thing in life. The current owner has had her fully serviced. If you are looking for a 2 CV you should not miss this nice model. There is now a strong demand for good ones and the market value is going up, so you have here a good buying opportunity.
