Description
To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' Milan event, 22 May 2025.
- One of Cisitalia’s rarest production models
- Delivered new in July 1953 to racer Fritz Stolz of Peseux, Switzerland
- Thought to be one of 10 examples built; only a handful of known survivors
- Powered by the correct-type 1.9-litre four-cylinder engine
- Restoration completed by D&D Classic Automobile Restoration of Ohio in 2011
- Part of the consigning owner’s private collection for the past decade
Cisitalia founder Piero Dusio took Giovanni Savonuzzi’s Ghia-Ford coupé prototype and used the Fiat 1900 as a base to create the Cisitalia 505 DF (for derivata Fiat). Chassis numbers indicate that no more than 10 were built, of which only two are thought to survive.
This car, chassis number 00209, was delivered in July 1953 to Swiss racer Fritz Stolz. He kept it only briefly before selling to Josef Steiner of Zürich in April 1954. After passing through various Swiss owners, the car was acquired by Holger Kluge of Bremen in Germany in 1989. He began a restoration that was never completed. The Fendt Collection took ownership of the Cisitalia in 2005 and by 2011, it had been finished by D&D Classic Automobile Restoration in Ohio, United States, with the work costing in excess of $230,000. Upon completion, the 505 DF earned “Best Restored Car” honours at the 2014 Schloss Bensberg Classics concours in Germany.
Acquired by the consigning owner in 2015, chassis 00209 has remained a part of their stable for the past decade. Offering a perfect blend of 1950s Italian and American automotive design, this incredibly rare Cisitalia 505 DF would make a for a wonderful addition to any collection.
