Description

In terms of beauty and elegance, few postwar automobiles compare to Chrysler’s dashing Town and Country models. Featuring handsome wooden and steel bodywork and exacting construction reminiscent of the finest wood-hulled speedboats of the 1930s and 1940s, the Town and Country remains an unqualified collector favorite with CCCA Full Classic recognition. Offered along the Windsor series as a four-door sedan and as a convertible on the longer-wheelbase New Yorker line, the 1948 Town and Country models were the last to feature structural ash wooden framing for their doors, rear side panels, and trunk lids. Vault-like solidity and heavy, nautical-type hardware were other hallmarks of these final “true” Town and Country models. Priced from $3,420 in keeping with its commanding presence, the 1948 New Yorker Town and Country was quite popular nonetheless, with 8,368 produced.

The last collector car acquired by Richard Donner, and bought in 2019, this top-of-the-line 1948 Chrysler New Yorker Town and Country Convertible features an attractive livery, comprising a Navy Blue exterior finish and a matching canvas soft top over beige vinyl upholstery. Riding a commanding 127.5" wheelbase chassis, this Town and Country is powered by Chrysler’s “Spitfire” eight-cylinder engine, factory-rated at 135 hp with the advanced Fluid Drive semiautomatic transmission. Offered showing under 78,000 miles on the odometer, this wonderful Town and Country Convertible sports such desirable features and options such as dual spotlights, an AM radio, and steel wheels mounting factory-styled wheel covers, and wide Coker whitewall radial tires. As one of the most stylish American automobiles of the immediate postwar era, this 1948 Chrysler Town and Country Convertible is immensely collectible and ready to be enjoyed and appreciated.
