Description
Chevron, the Bolton based racing car constructor, had full order books for the start of the 1978 season following the Formula 2 success of the B40 during the 1977 season. There were plans to build 28 new B42 chassis for 1978 until Chevron founder and mastermind Derek bennett was tragically killed in a hang-gliding accident on March 22nd, 1978.Under the direction of Paul Owens 21 of the B42 were completed to the original specification. New managing director Dave Wilson could see that ground effect was filtering down from Formula 1 and he instructed Arrows designer Tony Southgate to build the remaining cars to the ground-effect B48 specification. Several of the original B42 cars were updated as well and 7 new B48 cars were constructed. This car, chassis B48-79-07 was one of two cars purchased by Alan Docking Racing for Dutchman and later F1 driver Huub Rothengatter with sponsorship from Marlboro and D.H.L.. Its history is detailed further below. The current owner heard about the damaged Formula 2 car in Australia and , after checking and confirming its provenance, bought the car in February of 2009. It was sent to Vin malkie at Chevron Racing for assessment and repair and a period correct 420R engine was sourced for the car. It was rebuilt in truly "state-of-the-art" fashion with great attention to detail to the Chevron B42 non-ground effect specification wearing its successful 1979 Macau GP livery. The detail specifications of the rebuild can be found in the "B42 Rebuild Detail" document.Chassis B48-79-07 has only had 4 owners since new. It comes with a 2019 FIA HTP (valid until 2029) and excellent spares: 10 wheels, silencer, bodywork, suspension parts plus all the original parts of the car not used in the rebuild. This fresh and stunning Chevron B42 is 100% ready for the 2020 Formula 2 championship where it should be a front running and - in the right hands - even a winning car. ...
