Steeped in Great Britain’s rich racing heritage, Derek Bennett’s Chevron emerged in the 1960s as one of the world’s premier constructors of sports racing cars. Based on the B16 coupe, the B19 is one of the marque’s definitive race cars, developed at the urging of Brian Redman. Former Abarth driver Ed Swart formed Team Canon with two B19s and won his first race from pole at Zandvoort on May 16, 1971. He had a strong, yet hard-fought 1971 season across Europe, with a 4th at Imola, 1st at Wunstorf, 3rd at Brands Hatch, and 2nd Overall at Zandvoort’s Trophy of the Dunes. In late 1971, Swart co-drove a Wynn’s-sponsored B19 in Africa with eventual F1 World Champion Jody Scheckter, winning the three-hour race at Lourenço Marques, finishing 3rd at Bulawayo, and placing 2nd at the Goldfields 3-Hours.

Swart reunited with the Chevron B19 model in 1989 when he acquired this example, chassis DBE19/25. Presented in Team Canon livery, it includes HSR and VARA logbooks spanning 1995–2002 and 2010–2021. Previous owners are documented in the included FIA paperwork, including Sid and Andrew Marler, who acquired the B19 in 1984 and campaigned it in HSCC and German vintage events, capturing the 1988 Super Sports Cup.

Following Swart’s acquisition in 1989, the car was refinished in its current red and white Canon livery. From 1989 to 1995, it contested 35 European FIA Super Sports events on nine different circuits, scoring class wins at Spa, Silverstone, Nürburgring, Brands Hatch, and Zandvoort. The tubular chassis was replaced in 1991 by Chevron UK specialists Malkie Racing and, in 1995, the B19 was shipped to the US, where it was driven by Swart until 2008, when it was restored and updated by California’s Toluca Lake Historics. From 1995 through 2021, the B19 was campaigned by Swart on 20 different tracks and took numerous class wins, including two overall wins in the 2-Liter Shootout at Daytona.

Powered by a 290 hp, Lucas fuel-injected, Ford Cosworth BDG 16-valve engine built by Slade Engines, and with just one hour of use, this potent Chevron B19 is a highly competitive and attractive vintage racer documented by the aforementioned FIA papers and racing logbooks. Swart’s recent autobiography, Ed Swart: From Zandvoort to Daytona, documents his 60-year racing career, including his 33 years with this B19.
