There was a time when the Chevrolet Corvette was simply supplied with a “Big Block”. This example first hit the roads in 1974 and has a satisfying 454 Cubic Inches of V8 under the bonnet. In Europe we would call it a 7.4 litre. Which ever way, is it more or less an infinite large bore. In our case the 275 Ps engine is couple to the more popular 4-speed manual gearbox.

Having been already restored and mechanically overhauled, it presents very well indeed. The car has a fetching blue exterior finish complimented by a black coloured interior. The ‘74 Corvettes distinguish themselves on a number of fronts. It is the last year of the split rear bumper and the rear lights are incorporated as part of rear bodywork constellation. The modified engine cooling and air-conditioning inlets at the front of the car warrant a second look. Unlike European cars American car evolve year on year building on last years model. Subtle changes are only discernable for the proper aficionado.

Mechanically the car was fully overhauled. The last overhaul was carried out some time ago when the engine was removed and fully rebuilt. The effect is really noticeable, as is usual with large bore engines torque is in abundance but the car also easily tackles the revs with pleasure. The 4-speed manual transmission works smoothly with ratios that suit the car’s character and keep the revs down on the motorway. The suspension has a nice balance between sport and comfort for longer journeys. The miles speed effortlessly by and hours of motoring turn into days and before you realise it you have traversed Europe to the soundtrack of that fabulous V8.
