Description
To celebrate earning his PhD in astronomy from Harvard University, Dr. Eugene Epstein ordered this handsome 1964 Chevrolet Corvette from Robert Hall Chevrolet in Tujunga, California. In an April 28, 1964, letter to the dealership’s General Manager Art Gray, included in the sale, Dr. Epstein specified that his car was to be white with red interior, optioned with AM/FM radio and back-up lights, and that it was not to be built on a Monday.
As a consummate scientist, Dr. Epstein retained his window sticker, original owner’s manual in its original pouch, Protect-O-Plate, radio operating instructions, and original photographs from the day the car was delivered. He cherished his Corvette, and maintained it in immaculate condition throughout its life. In later years, he began driving the car every Sunday around a 25-mile loop near his home to keep the Corvette in running condition and recording each one of these drives in handwritten notes, included in the sale. In 2011, Dr. Epstein sold his beloved Corvette along to the consignor.
At the time of cataloguing, the car displayed just 43,554 miles and remains in original, unrestored condition. In 2012, it received a Top Flight Award from NCRS, scoring 97 of 100 points against a restored car standard. This striking coupe represents a rare opportunity to acquire a startlingly original, meticulously preserved mid-year Corvette.
