In the early 1950s, the Chevrolet brand presented one of the most emblematic models of American production, the Corvette. The C1, at the time, was the first production car with a fibreglass body. The highly innovative line was taken directly from the EX-122 Roadster concept car presented in January 1953 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. The car was powered by a 3.9-litre Chevrolet in-line six-cylinder engine coupled to an automatic transmission. Unfortunately, this "blue flame" unit did not develop the power expected by its users. In order to correct this defect and increase sales, a new engine was offered in 1955. It is a V8, an architecture that will be used in future generations. Coupled to an automatic or a 3-speed manual gearbox, this V8 with a displacement of 4.3 litres develops 195 hp. It was in 1956 that the range was equipped with engines powerful enough for the market standards. The 4.3-litre V8 was offered in three versions developing 210, 225 or 240 horsepower. The performances are in clear progress as well as the sales which follow the same evolution. A 4-speed mechanical gearbox was then offered in 1957. Cylinders and power ratings continued to improve until the model was replaced in 1963.
Beyond performance, the Corvette myth was also born from the exceptional look of this first generation. The C1 is characterised by a unique line drawing inspiration from the aeronautical world, its futuristic dashboard and its panoramic windscreen. Its bodywork underwent several stylistic evolutions, notably the appearance in 1958 of a front end with 4 headlights.

The model we are presenting was put into circulation on 1st July 1957. It is in very good condition and has a superb two-tone Cascade Green livery with a beautiful recently reconditioned beige vinyl interior. The white sidewall tyres in the pure American tradition complete the look of this car. Acquired in 2013 by its former owner, this Corvette had undergone a complete restoration in Germany. Mechanically, it is equipped with a rear V8 engine combined with a 4-speed manual gearbox. Disc brakes have been fitted at the front to improve braking quality. Mechanically simple, the Corvette's avant-garde design from the outset has made it one of the most successful cars in the American car industry. This extremely desirable model will offer its future owner the infinite pleasure of immersing himself in the America of the 1950s.
