Description
Chassis No. E56S003032
The year 1956 marked the first major facelift for the first-generation Chevrolet Corvette. The flush covered headlights of the earlier models were replaced with more pronounced "out-front" headlights, while the flanks featured large, scalloped panels tracing their way back from the front fenders. The rear corners lost their fins, and the taillights were integrated into the rear fenders for a cleaner look. An improved convertible top meant the Corvette was no longer a roadster, but instead a true convertible. Under the hood, there were three versions of the 265 cu-in V8. An additional $172.20 spent on RPO code 469 added a dual four-barrel carbureted high-compression V8 with 225 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Paired to the close-ratio Synchro-Mesh three-speed transmission, as with this example on offer, the result was a highly desirable "Power Team," and one that provided the Corvette with legitimate performance credentials.
Finished in Polo White with optional contrasting Silver Metallic coves, this 1956 cuts a striking presence when paired with its red upholstered interior and contrasting power-operated black soft top. The car is further enhanced with the optional body-color "quick-change" reinforced fiberglass hardtop. The red two-seat interior with its sporting three-speed features further optional equipment including power windows, a heater, courtesy lights, a signal-seeking AM radio, and windshield washers. In 2004, this Corvette underwent a comprehensive restoration, completed to a high standard. As proof, it earned 'Gold Certified" status in 2012 noted by Bloomington Gold to be bestowed on Corvettes that appear "as it would just after completion of typical factory production." The framed certification from June 2012 with judging sheets and folder is included with the car in addition to a file of records, receipts, and photos of the restoration process. Completed with a jack, spare tire, and an additional smaller diameter steering wheel, this example with its three-speed and optional V8, might have its future caretaker taking the long way while driving to the show field!
