Car culture changed in the early 1960s when Americans started thinking less about chrome, fins, wood and soft suspensions. Horsepower, torque and handling were what the public wanted. American auto manufactures were in competition against one another to be king of the track and street; soon every manufacture had their own musclecar, if not multiple examples.

To come close to the performance of their Corvette stablemate, Chevrolet engineers went with more power, general refinements and wide-stance grip to earn the Camaro the nickname “The Hugger” for its nimble cat-quick maneuverability. The Camaro was closing the generation gap …fast.

Introduced in 1967, while the Mustang was already a household name, the Camaro came into the market ready to race. In its debut year it was offered with several engines starting with the 230-cid and working its way up to the 396-cid Camaro SS engine.

This exceptional 1969 SS 396 Camaro is one of 3,692 X-66 built with RPO L35 396-cid, 325-hp V-8 engine and has received a beautiful, high quality restoration completed in 2015. It was painted in base and clear coats with the factory code 79 Rally Green with black stripes and matching top and boot. The deluxe houndstooth interior; carpet, door panels and weather stripping is new and impeccable.

Among the equipment are bucket seats, console-shift with gauge package, in-dash tachometer, AM/FM radio, original 14-inch SS wheels, correct Goodyear Polyglas tires; power top, steering and brakes with front discs. The Camaro is reported to run with its original drivetrain, including coded 12-bolt rear end. It is also noted that marque expert Jerry MacNeish has certified this exceptional Camaro.
