In the mid-1920s, Cadillac developed a vehicle that it hoped would be unrivalled in power and comfort. The result spoke for itself in 1930, when the American marque announced its new “V-16” model, powered by a 7.4-litre V-16 engine. Early sales success exceeded expectations, especially in the wake of the Great Depression. The V-16 was available in various body styles, with the Roadster body considered by many to be the most desirable.

This V-16 was dispatched on 18 March 1930 as a seven-passenger sedan and delivered to the Stockell Motor Car Company of Nashville, Tennessee. Though its early history is not known, the car is presented with an attractive roadster body constructed by Mr. Marc S. Ohm of St. Louis, Missouri, a renowned collector and restorer. Mr. Ohm acquired the Cadillac in 1986 from its previous owner in Guildford, Connecticut. He hand-built a period-correct Fleetwood roadster body around the original bulkhead and bonnet, finished in a two-tone graphite grey over black combination, with red striping and interior. Once completed, the V-16 was exhibited in several Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) shows, including the 1993 Cadillac-LaSalle Experience in Michigan, where it received the Gilmore Award.

In 1997, Mr. Ohm sold this V-16 to its next owner in Wichita, Kansas, where it remained for several years. From then on, the Cadillac was acquired by Mr. Gaetano Rastelli and exported to Italy, where it was exhibited around Brescia, before being acquired by its incumbent owner. This V-16 is well equipped, and features components including driving lights, dual horns, radiator stone guard, rumble seat, side-mounted spares with mirrors, driver and passenger spotlights, rear-mounted trunk rack with trunk, and wind wings. The interior features an engine-turned dash, with period instrumentation, and a rare cat’s-eye lighter.

In the United States, the V-16 is recognised by the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) as a “Full Classic”, making it eligible for club events and tours. A rare sight in Europe, this Roadster in the style of Fleetwood is believed to be one of the very few V-16s in Italy, and was the cover car in the January 2007 edition of Ruoteclassiche. Today, the car’s restoration remains well-preserved and presents attractively as testament to the original quality of the work.

"Full Classic" du Classic Car Club of America (CCCA)
