Description

"Cadillac traded punches with Packard for the honours of luxury car supremacy in the US and eventually came out on top. This was aided by Cadillacs success at Le Mans in 1950, a performance unmatched by any other production luxury car manufacturer. In 1950, the entry-level Cadillac was the Series 61, available as a four-door saloon or a club coupé. If one wanted a Coupé de Ville hardtop or a convertible, it was necessary to order the upscale Series 62, and most customers did, although only 6,986 opted for the soft-top version. The Cadillac Series 62 received a gentle makeover for 1950, though the design retained signature features such as the imposing egg-crate grille and swooping skirted rear bumpers. In terms of aesthetics and driver visibility, the model was improved with the introduction of a one-piece full width windscreen and pillarless window styling. The Series 62 was powered by a 331 overhead-valve V8 that Cadillac had introduced a year earlier, an engine that would go on to be one of the industry’s most successful and long lived power units. Mated to a standard equipped Hydramatic transmission, the V8 developed 160bhp, providing smooth power for well-appointed touring. Though Cadillac built nearly 60,000 cars for 1950, less than 12% were Series 62 convertible coupés, making surviving examples relatively rare.
This delightfully handsome convertible, with its light green paintwork and ample chromework is in good order. The interior shows signs of patina and it comes down to personal taste as to whether this is improved or replaced. Other than that, this is a very good example and we are advised she drives with no known faults. Having formed part of a private collection until recently, this Series 62 Cadillac is not only one of the most aesthetically pleasing cars you could ever set eyes on, start the V8 engine and the package is complete. These iconic cars from the 50’s appear to be gaining popularity and it is little wonder why. The UK registration document has been applied for and we expect this to be completed prior to the sale date. Thinking of a way to impress your neighbours?"
